Does anyone know of any books or articles on the subject?

I'm especially interested in the difference they had with the Communists. I've found this online and it seems to be pretty "good." (Lots of food, little digestion.)

Anything else? Thankyou.

George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia is the best:

The Battle for Spain: The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939 Is a very good (relatively) neutral book on the issue.

I'm probably gonna read Anarchism and Workers' Self-Management in Revolutionary Spain when it comes out.

Chomsky writes about it a little bit-

Also, there's a great documentary made up of 6 self-contained parts on youtube. The fifth one is on the revolution and is the best and most relevant. Here it is:

Homage to Catalonia's good Battle For Spain And I hear good things about this book called "A Day Mournful and Overcast". I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but it's an account written by a militiaman from the Iron Column -- which was basically made up of criminals

Yes, very. It's mostly first-hand accounts of what it was like being a civilian and living during the civil war, so it mainly focuses on the social and political aspects - both of which are rarely covered.

Whats interesting is how quickly society organized itself without Capitalism and without the State.
No need for comrade Lenin or the Communist party to organize resources, no need for a board of directors or bankers to organize them either.

I quite liked We, The Anarchists by Stuart Christie which gives a good overwiew of the history of the CNT/FAI

http://www.akpress.org/2001/items/wetheanarchistsakpress

and Anarchism and The City by Chris Ealham, which focuses more on the the anarchist movement in Barcelona and surrounding areas of Catalonia, giving a good insight into the reasons for the rise of radical thought in Barcelona and why anarchism appealed to so many of its working class.
