If you want to read a thoroughly entertaining piece of propaganda, may I enthusiastically direct your attention to Miscegenation: The Theory of the Blending of the Races, Applied to the American White Man and Negro (http://www.archive.org/details/miscegenationthe00crol). (http://www.archive.org/details/miscegenationthe00crol)
This pamphlet, published in December 1863, was ostensibly penned by abolitionists and recommended the intermarriage of whites and blacks toward the ultimate goal of an indistinguishably intermixed race of the future; the pamphlet further indicated that it was the intent of the Republican Party to follow such a course of miscegenation, a word actually invented specifically for this pamphlet.
The pamphlet was later revealed to have been written by Democrats in an effort to smear the Republican Partyeven abolitionists would find the ideas contained within the pamphlet to be radical or even incendiary.
Details about the history of this document can be found here. (http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/archive/permalink/the_miscegenation_hoax/)
A contemporary rebuttal to the pamphlet, Subgenation: The Theory of the Normal Relations of the Races; An Answer to Miscegenation can be read here (http://www.archive.org/details/subgenationtheor00vane), for those interested.
