On the one hand, I see charity and think that it is a humiliating example of altruism deformed and completely incapable of rectifying the inequities of capitalism. On the other, I feel as if examples like these are also a source of hope; that we really are capable of defying the logic of rapacious self-interest and act upon the logic of altruism and solidarity - even when the entire structure of society and popular culture incessantly scream at us to do differently. In every act of solidarity there is a breath of fresh air urging our class onward in struggle.

Charity is no substitute for the abolition of capitalism, but who isn't reassured after watching this video that human beings are not, as the capitalist machine tells us, naturally greedy?

When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint, when i ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.

that about sums up the reasoning behind the situation. anyone with a full time job should be able to support themselves and their children, many can't. And people still support the system that does this to them.
