HISTORY

The year is 2100, and the world is changing more rapidly than even the wildest dreams of Transhumanists early in the previous century. Humanity is no longer alone, but is joined by sapient fellow-travellers both of their own making as well as previously unrecognised or unknown; Artificial Intelligences apply their vast intellectual prowess to shatter the boundaries of mindkind's fields of knowledge, robotic Mechanoids labour round the clock, occasionally stopping to rebel against their masters, while uplifted animals and genetically engineered creations provide faithful servants, friends and lovers. In the deep ocean trenches, a technologically advanced non-humanoid race has been discovered, who claim to have lived on Earth for far longer than humanity. Under the ice of Antarctica, another sapient species, unlike any before encountered, dwells and lays claim to artefacts of obviously extraterrestrial origin. On Mars, an ancient civilisation has been discovered and it's inhabitants resurrected through miraculous biotechnology.

The realm of human relations is also undergoing paroxysms of radical change. Growth tanks and artificial wombs have completely divorced sex from reproduction, hyperfast internet connections and revolutionary advances in personal computing allow real-time communication between globally distant people as if they were face-to-face in the same room, and capitalism is dead in a lot of places and on life support elsewhere, thanks to universal fabrication machines (UFMs or Fabbers), bioforges and advanced nanomanufacturing. Thousands of people cryogenically preserved over the past century are being revived, people are using implants and cyberwear to form permanent and temporary collective intelligences, and people regularly upload themselves and have copies of themselves made (known as xoxing). The traditional nation-state is no more, having been replaced with alliances of autonomous city-states that band together for economic and military purposes as well as sprawling federal super-polities that can cover entire continents.

Historians generally agree that the current transitional period began with the collapse of the United States of America as a unified political entity, when in 2020, amidst significant social unrest and widespread political agitation, Washington DC was wiped out with a smuggled-in thermonuclear weapon by an agency unknown at the time, but now known to be a Star Kvlt coven. With DC in radioactive ruins and the federal government in disarray, political fracture was inevitable as the populations of the various States sought to have a more local kind of government that was closer to their different ideals. It was not long before the hegemonistic fragments clashed with their more peacable neighbours in an attempt to re-establish the glory of the USA that once was, but others liked the taste of self-rule and secessionist sentiment had never really gone away, and thus began what was called the North American War by everyone except the Federalists, who called it the Second American Civil War. The fighting went on and off until 2098, when Marispatria was asked to negotiate a ceasefire between the combatants and administrate the disputed territories in and around where DC used to be. This eventuality hurt the fragile pride of the Federalists, but all but the most radical of their number agreed to it for pragmatic reasons, chief among them war-weariness and a desire to rebuild infrastructure severely damaged by decades of sporadic but fierce fighting.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the course of history was less physically destructive but no less tumultous. The destruction of the old order was ensured by intense economic contradictions, advancing manufacturing and fabrication technology, and increasing working class militancy as they were pushed out of jobs and into increasingly meagre and degrading "workfare". Over a few short decades a series of revolutions and popular uprisings toppled the governments of Europe, north Africa, Russia and the Middle East and established in their place a military/economic federal alliance of collectives, councils, communes and polises, which over time became increasingly interlinked along technocratic lines, at least in the economically interdependant urban areas. It is generally agreed that Marispatria's existence began with the widespread ratification of the Union Constitution, although Marispatria's current territorial make-up was not established until 2096 when Japan, Korea, [Red Sea Territory], and North Somalia were formally admitted into the Union.

GM's note: The following section is more to remind myself as to what will happen canonically in the Nova Mundi universe, but I thought you might be interested.

Earth's history won't end here of course. Over the next few millennia a Global Technate will rise and fall, the Mediterranean Sea will be dammed, a global ice age will entomb the planet in ice, Atlantis will rise once again from the depths (and the Atlantean Congress, being human supremacists, will drag it back down again while trashing the planet in the process), which of course will engender a reaction from the Avatar AIs involving kicking everyone else off the planet, resulting in a war to reclaim Earth which successfully destroys CyberShadow presence on the planet, but before fleeing the Solar system they devastate Earth with a superweapon that leaves the place a bone-dry barren wasteland. The various Powers of the Solar system will therefore be too busy restoring Earth's shattered biosphere, fixing up the rest of the Solar system, and all the while having to eradicate outbreaks of CyberShadow autonomous war machinery that will have been left behind.

The year 2100 also signals the beginning of the conquest of the Solar system, including colonisation out to the Oort cloud and beyond, the terraformation of Mars and then Venus, and the introduction of Skylight paraterraforming technology.

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

They don't exist any more. Or rather, technology and the geopolitical zeitgeist have utterly transformed their role, from a shadowy Sword of Damocles hanging over the heads of entire nations, to a cold hard fact of military engagements. While strikes on more populated areas or against non-military targets still invite retaliation in kind, advances in materials, armour, active defences, and production capacity make the sheer destructive force characteristic of WMDs a necessity. Another factor are the more concentrated population patterns and larger fields of combat of the 22nd century, which give room for armed forces to throw more firepower at each other without risking too much in the way of collateral damage. The following details the weapons available as of 2100:


Pure fission devices (A-bombs) - By the far the most common, fission bomb technology has reached new heights, driven not by the demands of war, but by the development of nuclear pulse engines for spacecraft; the devices needed to be as small and as powerful as possible, with some designs calling for shaped charge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaped_charge) devices that focus the blast in a particular direction. They also needed to mass produced. All of these features and the technologies used in their application lend themselves well to weaponisation, and the smaller polities, aided by the collapse in the mid-21st century of the UN, leapt at this opportunity with a will. Since then further refinements have been made, allowing fission warheads small enough to fit in a man-portable missile launcher. The discovery of stable transuranic elements (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_of_stability) could lead to even further miniaturisation.

Thermonuclear devices

Neutron bombs - Trading explosive power for radioactive flux, neutron bombs are useful for sterilising large areas and for attacking large armies in situations that don't suit more explosive devices.

Dirty nukes - These are nuclear devices designed and deployed with enhanced radioactive fallout in mind.

Radiological weapons - These devices disperse radioactive material in an area, rendering it hazardous to those without sufficient protection. Affected areas can be cleaned up if you're in a hurry to use them again.


Arostic energy weapons - These are particle beams and X-ray/gamma ray weapons that lack the power for immediate physical destruction, but are powerful enough to cause radiation sickness and death in targets.

Bioweapons - While the old artillery shell filled with anthrax spores is considered by most sane people to be too indiscriminate to be useful, more intelligent bionanotechnology has since stepped into that role. Advances in genetics have enabled macroscopic bioweapons capable of reproduction, self-repair and adaptation to changing battlefield conditions.

Chemical weapons - Although their role has mostly been superceded by nanotechnology, chemical weapons still have their uses in niche roles as well as in the arsenals of those resuse to have nanotechnology. This means that chemical weapons have a reputation for being favoured by regressive sociopaths.

Nanotechnology - The versatility of nanotech extends into weapons as much as anything else. Basic nanotech can be deployed as a transient non-reproducing cloud of foglets that will attempt to disassemble anything they come across from the molecular level up. More advanced nanotech can be programmed to target specific materials, can replace lost or damaged foglets (but otherwise does not grow or reproduce). The latest ad greatest nanotech created by the titanic intellects of AIs can grow and reproduce, plus a distributed intelligence enables them to discriminate between friends, enemies and civilians.

Antimatter - With the industrialisation of the surface of Mercury, antimatter production skyrocketed and for the first time the fierce energies of matter's evil twin could be harnessed for destruction. The earliest antimatter devices delivered on their promises of destructive capability, but had bulky containment and isolation systems that limited their use. Today however, antimatter explosives mainly come in the form of "dust" composed of buckyball fullerenes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullerene) suspending anti-protons in their centres.

Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapons - Capable of plunging entire cities into darkness, EMP weapons come in "soft" and "hard" varieties. Soft EMP weapons disrupt the operations of electronics without damaging their hardware - but being forced to reboot can be deadly. Electronics that succumb to an attack with a hard EMP weapon will briefly shoot out sparks and sheets of flame while dying, requiring replacement or repair.

Monopoles - Produced in particle accelerators, monopoles are submicroscopic one-dimensional "kinks" or "knots" in spacetime that spontaneously release megatons of energy when induced to "flatten" or "unravel". Monopoles can pass straight through all types of matter and be unaffected, but the passage of the monopole violently disrupts atomic and molecular bonds, and the damage is increased due to the resulting secondary interactions.


FACTIONAL ALIGNMENTS

Most human and human-derived factions belong in one of four "alignments", representing the range of popular political/philosophical viewpoints in the 22nd century. These alignments are to provide a general inspiration for roleplayers, but if the context demands it then it is perfectly acceptable for even mortal enemies to enter into a temporary alliance. Remember that all sides have both their blind fanatics and their reasonable beings!


- Extropian (AI epithet: Power)

Extropians value sociobiological diversity very highly, and this is reflected by the high number of transhuman, posthuman, and non-human citizens found in Extropian polities. Where resources permit, Extropians are also fond of large-scale, highly technological scientific and civic projects. This level of enthusiasm for technology can give them a significant military edge, but most Extropian polities have little taste for armed foreign adventures. Outside of technical endeavours Extropians can be extremely informal, having little patience for pomp and ceremony, and they are distinctly unimpressed by titles and badges. As a bastion of Extropianism on Earth, many Extropians outside of Marispatria have adopted its motto - Wisdom, Sensuality, Compassion - for themselves.

Contrasted lifestyles


- Preservationist

The Preservationists are a loose bunch, in some ways more diverse than even the Extropians. It includes human supremacist organisations, Ludds (who reject any technology that was developed by AIs and/or non-humans or with their assistance - anything developed solely by humans is generally OK, although different tendencies have different technologies they consider taboo), Primms (who have completely abandoned modern civilisation in favour of whatever wild spaces they can find), AI conspiracy theorists (who believe that all AIs are involved in some kind of pan-solar cabal that seeks to distract everyone else while they secure their own positions - basically think of almost every conspiracy theory ever, and pin it on all AIs - congratulations! You're now an AI conspiracist!) religious fanatics (the old kind horrified at what the world has become, including the increasing presence of non-humans, while the new kinds wishing to forcefully reshape the world according to their faith), anti-terraformation activists, capital revivalists, and American Federalists are just some of the disparate groups counted as Preservationist.


- CyberShadow (AI epithet: Avatar)

By comparison, the CyberShadow is a very discrete and coherent alignment. Based mostly in the Pan-Asian Federation, the CyberShadow is an alliance of Unfriendly AIs with nearly a continent's worth of people to hide behind. Subtle and devious, the CyberShadow prefers underhanded strategies over direct confrontation in order to avoid drawing undue attention to itself. Being Unfriendly, the Avatars of the CyberShadow have absolutely no qualms in using other beings as a means to an end, whatever they may be. However, the tyranny of the Avatars is a secret one (to the rest of the world, they present themselves as "moderate" human supremacists - divide and conquer), with only the highest circles of the Pan-Asian political classes being aware of their existence, and even then they don't realise simply how outclassed they are. If that secret becomes publicly known, things could turn ugly very fast.

Will flesh and metal unite or fight?

- NeoSocialist

NeoSocialism is an umbrella term for a variety of Marxist ideologies that have developed over the past century and have risen to prominence in Latin America and Africa, but can count members and advocates from all over the Solar system. Being human-centric but not human supremacist, NeoSocialist polities are overwhelmingly human in composition, but unlike the Preservationist Ludds are perfectly happy to use technology developed by non-humans (as long as it doesn't need an AI to actually use it). While most NeoSocialists pay lip service to the notion of unity and solidarity, the various currents and tendencies can at times disagree with each other as much if not more so than with everyone else. While NeoSocialism is often thought of as a human ideology, some non-humans have appropriated NeoSocialist thought and attempted to apply it to their own respective situations. The most well-known example is Robomarxism, which is especially popular with mechanoids in the parts of the Solar system where they are considered second-class citizens.

ENERGY AND RESOURCES

Each faction gets a certain amount of energy and resources per turn, depending on the territory held, and mines and power plants under the faction's control. Resources are the building blocks of your faction, and can be acquired via mining or trade. Resources once acquired can either be spent immediately or rolled over into the next turn. Energy on the other hand must be spent in the turn it was generated. However, if factions are connected with HVDC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-voltage_direct_current) cables, any energy leftover in one can be traded to the other. NON-TERRITORIAL FACTIONS

Fins Militant - Considered terrorists by some and heroes by others, this is a paramilitary organisation, composed mostly of Uplifts and Zoanthromorphic hybrids, dedicated to direct action against those considered to be threatening or directly damaging marine environments.

The Syndicate - Little is known about this shadowy organisation, except that they take no sides and are not supported by any major Terran polity. The Syndicate's agents appear to be baseline humans, dressed in black suits and ties at least a century out of fashion.

Legion of Steel Fists (TheGodlessUtopian) - A radically militant brigade of Robomarxist Mechanoid revolutionaries, they have carried out numerous attacks against polities that treat Mechanoids as second-class citizens. What makes this particular group especially effective is its extensive network of organic sympathisers.

Forces of God (FoG) - a millenarian Christian terrorist group, known to have carried out acts of terror against targets in diverse places in the Solar system, but most of their activity is in North America.

A new planet has been discovered in the Solar system, thanks to the Extremely Wide Baseline Interferometric Infra Red Telesecope built on the far side of the Moon and run by the Institute for Cosmic Engineering. Superdeep borehole mines and all the other Energy/Resources facilities listed cost one Action each to build, and don't start giving the goods until the next turn.

Okay, one action each sounds fair - but still, this is IMO overpowered. If I may make a suggestion - the initial cost should be way larger than the payout per turn. Otherwise, the only sensible move is just to build the best buildings until all the territories are full. For example, a building that gives 50 energy and 10 resources per turn could cost, say, 300e and 50r. And you could have the weaker buildings take less time to break even so they'd be worth constructing too. My gripe with the current system is really that it's very cheap and easy to upgrade the economy, and it gives a load of profit. That's the way it worked in Kléber's game with the economic investments.

Since the game's only just started, I think this is a change I can fit in. All players in favour say "aye".

(This is addressed at everyone btw.) Look at the Technocratic Union of Marispatria. Look at how rich they could become if all their provinces had superdeep borehole mines. Even if they had no military when getting attacked they could train a ton of superelite units in no time flat afterwards. This is why construction of these facilities need to be limited in both ways - with the proposed cost increases and the 1 action/1 facility rule. (And consider that there is even a project which increases production to 4 times its original value, I think.)

Still, I propose we wait for a while to see whether people accept the proposal in its original form.

Up to two million people have coverged on the Texan capital of Austin, to witness the inauguration of President Michael Bauer and the state ceremony taking place outside the Presidential Palace.

"The first annual Planetary peace conference went off without a hitch today within the orbital sanctuary of Mecha.

Delegates from The Federation of Martian Communes,The South African Accord as well as Marispatria were in attendance.Together these representatives met with various Legion officials to discuss possible ways in which liberation for the oppressed mechanoids might be reached.

First the group toured the various sights aboard the station as well as some of the more popular tourist location surrounding Earth while later in the day they 'got down to business.'

Up to fifty thousand protesters have converged upon the Texan capital of Austin to protest the policies of the Human National Party (HNP) and President Michael Bauer. Up to 41 people have been killed in the Texan capital of Austin.

Todays protest, which only hours ago was peaceful, has since descended into violence as members of the Austin Police Department (APD) and security forces from the Ministry of the Interior surrounded the area the protest was being held and started attacking the protesters.

APD riot vans and armoured cars from the Ministry of the Interior, armed with mounted machine guns, have been reported driving through the streets of downtown Austin and firing indiscriminately at anyone they deem to have been involed in the protests. There have also been reports of government snipers firing into the crowds from the rooftops of surrounding buildings.

So far it seems that the APD and the security forces are acting under the orders of the Minister of the Interior, Walter Vlock.

AP can now confirm that the death toll has risen to 117 dead and there are rumours that the actual figure is set to rise even more.

"Our war has begun.

Moments ago we began hearing word of Legion actions all throughout The Republic of Texas.Our words have not fallen on deaf ears and ,more so, they have landed on those who understand sacrifice.

The list of attacks are far too numerous to mention,but some of the highlights are as follows:

In central Dallas a series of car bombs rocked the inner city.The bombs were detonated outside of police stations and near military installations.

Arlen Texas:A important HNP member was assassinated today.The person,35 year old Human Supremacist Arnold Bit,was killed instantly when a sniper round entered his skull.

In Southern Texas,all throughout the HNP territory,Legion members and sympathizers organized themselves into combat cadres.These cadres then proceeded to launch a long overdue peoples struggle and viciously attacked soldiers and police.Within the Texan cities of Joi and Hoi squads seized control of the cities after intense fighting.While eventually driven back by a government counter-assault they nonetheless managed to show the pigs that they are more than capable of besting them in combat.

Elsewhere in the same region,cadres launched mortar attacks on military bases and patrols of troops while they were trying to restore order after the sudden outbreak of protests.The mortars caused great damage; in the words of one civilian,"...it was like the heavens themselves were crashing down!" After several hours the fighters were forced into the desert and city districts,but casualties were reported as high among the enemy forces.

Far up north Legion members planted road mines which detonated when a military convoy passed underneath.Once the lead vehicles were eliminated several ambush teams opened fire on the remaining forces and,after a hour long fire fight,killed every solider.The Legion personnel then commandeered the remaining vehicles and used organic supporters to sneak into highly secured bases where once inside they murdered several minor military staff which were known HNP members.Before being overwhelmed, the fighters ignited their suicide vests and killed several surrounding enemy soldiers and war machines.

Elsewhere within the Texan Republic city fighters initiated hit and run attacks on pro-government death squads.

Within the capital the heaviest fighting took place as Legion members made a concentrated push to capture the parliament building.Hours of heavy fighting produced the capture of several surrounding buildings before being forced to retreat and disband anonymously in the city.

In retaliation for the violence that the Texan authorities unleashed yesterday, the Legion of Steel Fists (LSF) has claimed responsibility for the nationwide series of attacks that took place today. Numerous attacks took place, from bombings to LSF fighters attacking military bases.

* LSF fighters carry out a commando style attack on the Texan Capitol Building, after heavy fighting they are repelled by Texan security forces.

* In central Dallas, the LSF carry out a series of bombings.

* Nationwide, there have been reports of the LSF attacking police stations, military bases and other government facilities. In these attacks, several LSF fighters use suicide bombing as a tactic, which is a first for the LSF.

Due to yesterdays events and the LSF attacks today, President Bauer has had to cut short his official state visit to the Eco-Technate of Australia. Southwestern Texas

60 fighter jets of the Texan Air Force begin bombing positions in and around the towns of Naiyn, San Tesi and New Texo. The three towns had fallen to fighters from the Legion of Steel Fists (LSF) yesterday, having taken government forces by surprise.

The bombing lasts over several hours, destroying many places where Texan satellite intelligence found the LSF fighters to be based. As that was happening, the Texan Army and Border Rangers secured the border to prevent any LSF fighters from fleeing to Mexico or LSF reinforcements coming from Mexico.

Then 20,000 soldiers from the Texan Army and up to 4,000 Texan Marines, backed up with tanks, armoured cars, heavy artillery, helicopter gunships and ground attack aircraft, began their assualt.

After several hours had passed the three towns had been retaken.

Those LSF fighters who had not died in battle were shoot on sight upon their surrender to Texan troops, as part of a take no prisoner strategy.

The massive underground complex under Syrtis Major Planum on Mars has astonished exo-archeologists. Representatives of the Belter Union and the Pan-Asian Federation signed a development agreement this year, in which the Belter Union will prepare and transport an asteroid into Earth orbit, mine it for themselves for a year, and then hand it over to the Pan-Asian Federation permanently. Minister for the Economy Pribat Ramachandran said in a speech after the signing "Long may the good relations and prosperity between us and the Belter Union last".

There has been an increase in the numbers of unregistered spacecraft operating without any kind of identifying beacons in the outer Solar system. This has rattled the pilots' unions and the spacer guilds, especially those based near Uranus or Neptune, whose members are mostly smaller operators, who consider themselves more vulnerable to space piracy and aggression.

AMERICAS

Republic of Texas President Michael Bauer is in critical condition today after an attempt was made on his life by an unknown assailant, who turned his weapon on himself before he could be captured. President Bauer was in an armoured limousine accompanied by armed guards when a young human male, believed to be a student at Austin University, opened fire from the crowd with a gamma-ray pistol, wounding the President in the chest.

Mere minutes later, two unmarked nuclear bombers took off from an unregistered airfield in the Pacific Union, and flew low and fast into Texan territory in an attempt to avoid their aerial detection and defence systems. They attempted to bomb Texan military bases, but none of their primary weapons manage to penetrate close-in air defence, resulting in minimal damage all round except in the case of one bomber, which managed to crash itself into the airbase it was attacking. The other bomber quickly succumbed to Texan air defence once its location was confirmed.

The chaos in Texas continued further with reports of Forces of God deathsquads roaming the streets murdering hybrids, mechanoids, and any humans percieved to be sympathetic with either.

The People's Republic of Mexico launched a major propaganda offensive, mainly aimed at Latin America and the Carribbean, encouraging unity in the face of these eventful times. There is a little suspicion of Mexico's geopolitical agendas behind the campaign especially in light of recent work on the canal, but it is otherwise generally well-recieved.

Work on widening the Panama canal in the Amero-Caribbean Solidarity has been completed. The conclusion of this work means that now vessels as large as the proposed Megaships will be able to pass through.

The People's Republic of South America also launched their own propaganda campaign, accusing the Antarctic Coalition of imperialism for their ongoing occupation of South Georgia island. While it fires up loyal South Americans, most of the world's attention has been on Texas.


AFRICA

An attempt to control the spread of Madverts in the People's Republic of Greater Congo using a wirelessly transmitted virus developed by Pan-Asian software engineers has backfired spectacularly. While at first Madverts infected with the virus meekly went to their demise in specially-placed disposal and recycling machines, a form of natural selection appears to have produced a mutant virus which confers a survival advantage upon the Madverts it infects. The infected Madverts lose their "plastic salesman" artificial personality, replacing it with a silent but much more aggressive one - they are considerably more focused on reproducing themselves, and they unlike their non-infected peers they are not too picky about where they get the raw materials from. This has resulted in damage to infrastructure as it is pillaged by a growing number of Madverts infected with this mutant software virus. Needless to say, this greatly complicates the Congo government's investigation of the matter.

A rebel movement has sparked up in the territories of the Malagasy Nanotopia, agitating for a NeoSocialist revolution. When asked, the Nanotopia emself was dismissive "All organic and metalloid macro-units who live in our territory but choose not to Combine are provided for", ey said in a general statement "this so-called "rebellion" is not a sincere expression for change but a spiteful attempt by the South African Accord to undermine us from within. President Micheal Bauer severely wounded in assassination attempt, assassin then turns the gun on himself

The would-be assassin is David Keating, a biology student at the University of Austin

The President is now secure and in hospital, doctors say they expect an eventual recovery

Minister of the Interior, Walter Vlock, sworn in as Acting President

President Michael Bauer is spending the night in the underground bunker of the Presidential Palace, where he is recovering and under the best and constant medical supervision at the underground complex's en-suite hospital. Doctors have said that although the wounds are severe, they do expect the President to make a full recovery within one to two years.

The presidential limousine was driving through downtown Austin. At 1:18 PM, a 19 year old human Texan citizen and a student in biology at the University of Austin, David Keating, fired on the presidential limousine. The weapon Keating used was a gamma ray pistol and with this weapon, Keating managed to severely wound the President in the chest. Along with killing a secret service agent, who gave his life to the cause he assigned himself to, protecting the life of the President and in doing so protecting our constitution and our Republic. After firing a barrage of gamma rays, Keating then turned the gun on himself and killed himself.

Little is yet known about David Keating, but the police, the intelligence agencies and now Acting President Walter Vlock are all confident that within the days and weeks to come, they will find out all they need to know to punish all those who are party to this assassination attempt on the President.

A couple of hours after the assassination attempt and after it became apparent that President Bauer will not be able to resume his duties as President for two years, the cabinet called a meeting to session. Under Article 25 of the Constitution, the cabinet may agree to elect an Acting President who will serve for as long as the President is unable to fufill his duties either physically or mentally.

By a vote of 21-11, the Minister of the Interior Walter Vlock was elected to the position of Acting President of the Republic of Texas.

Upon election, the cabinet bore witness to the Attorney General swearing in Walter Vlock as Acting President.

The Acting President has said that he aims to restore calm to the Republic and to prevent any further escalation in violence or unrest.

The Texan Army came under attack today, along with several bombings against police stations in a series of co-ordinated attacks carried out by the Legion of Steel Fists terrorist group.

LSF terrorists managed to hijack to large planes from the Pacific Union. Upon entering Texan airspace, they were engaged by anti-air defences and one was shot down, killing all LSF terrorists on board. Sadly the other plane did manage to crash into a Texan Army base, killing just over 400 soldiers. Survivors have described it as an atrocitiy and like from a scene in hell. The tactic of using planes as suicide bombers and crashing them into your targets has of course been used before. By the Japanese Empire 160 years ago and by Osama bin Laden 99 years ago, both good examples of the fanatical mindset that terrorists like the LSF possess.

Like Leo Tolstoy, I also came to the realization one day that our human life, and in fact existence itself is completely meaningless. But unlike Tolstoy, I did not arrive at the pessimistic conclusion that life is therefore evil. Instead, I jumped to the conclusion that because life has no meaning, we must make meaning for it. Humanity must make a meaning for itself if it is to survive in this passive environment. So I set off thinking what meaning humanity should bestow upon itself, which path would lead to the most prosperity. To figure this out, I had to question the very meaning of prosperity itself, in human terms as well as outside universal terms. I rejected religion because I saw it as too absurdly far from reason, and while giving meaning to humanity is itself without reason, we live in a world that runs on reason. Religion gives all the answers in simple fables; I found it the easy way out; a way out with no advancement, or future for humanity. So I put my so called “faith” in science and technology. To come to this conclusion, I studied at what truly changed human society these past 4000 years. It was not political ideology, religion, or sheer power. It was technology. Technology is what thrusts humanity into the future at an ever increasing pace. It has also answered many questions that we thought before to be inherently impossible to answer. It has given humanity the power to control himself and his environment, on the path to become the Gods we once idolized as a younger civilization. It also provides hope into seeing if our existence truly has a meaning or not, maybe this age old question is also one of those question that we now find impossible to answer, yet will be answered sometime in the future. I also looked at what makes us humans different from the rest of the living population. We are blessed with the brain and intelligence that brought us out of our barbaric nature, so why not use what we have given? Why not strive to improve using what we hold so dear to our species? Why waste our intellect on fables that automatically explain the world for us without any effort on our part to indulge into the physics of the real world? The Republic of Texas and I thank the Pacific Union for their statement of clarity, support and sympathy.

I wish and hope for the very best with regards to your offer to investigate this horrific incident. I would like to make it clear that neither the Republic nor I hold the Pacific Union in anyway responsible, this incident was totally unforeseen by all. We have already concluded that this was part of a very bold and well organised LSF attack. I am heartfelt to see that the General Council shares our view that the LSF are a threat to peace in North America, that they use the methods of criminality and mass murder, that they violate at will the sovereignty of indpendent nations and their sheer disregard for human and non-human life.

As it is apparant that the LSF are the organisation responsible for this terrorist attack, I would like to offer that our two nations begin a process of collaboration and a sharing of data between our respective intelligence agencies with regards to everything concerning the LSF. The Republic already has a substantial amount of intel and a good working knowledge of the LSF. Likewise I am sure that the Pacific Union has intel on the LSF.

If our two nations are to face the LSF, then it only makes sense for us to share our knowledge and resources in restoring peace to North America and confronting terrorism.

A major nationwide police and security operation came to a successful conclusion today. The operation involved the Houston Police Department, the Dallas Police Department and rural police forces, along with special forces and intelligence agents.

The target of the operation was the Legion of Steel Fists terrorist group.

The operation has been described by authorities as a preemptive move to prevent the LSF from staging a series of car bomb attacks in Dallas and Houston, along with a plot to use safe houses as a base for motar attacks.

At dawn today, the LSF terrorist cells faced a combined assault on them by the HPD, DPD, Texan Rangers, and units from the military including assault infantry and special forces. All Texan military and security forces were under orders to arrest as many terrorists as possible, so as to be able to access information from them with regards to the LSF and future terrorist plots. 374 LSF terrorists have been arrested nationwide. Of course, when faced with arrest a number of LSF terrorists did violently resist and we can confirm that nationwide 56 LSF terrorists have been killed. Recent events have prompted me to make a personal appeal to the CSA, the Texas Republic, and the LSF: these strikes and counter-strikes amount to little, save the loss and destruction of all forms of life. The struggle of the Legion is, I would contend, a reasonable one; however, their actions amount to the highest form of terrorism, and do not resemble that of a truly revolutionary body. While we back their claims of abuse and mistreatment at the hands of the human supremacists as well as their demands for independence and political autonomy, we can't in good conscience support this year's strikes. We wish to let it be known that as we were one of the parties to explicitly invite Marispatria into north America for peacekeeping duties, and they accepted that duty, then it is only fair to ask for them to keep to the spirit of the Maryland Agreement and aid any north American polity in countering the violence of the Legion of Steel Fists, which has left thousands dead in the Republic of Texas, and in the CSA as well.

We have declared the Legion of Steel Fists a terrorist organisation. This is not a decision we take lightly, in view of our history of sheltering non-humans from oppression during the North American War, and our continuing acceptance of non-humans as full members of society. We in the Legion of Steel Fists would not object to allowing in international observers into our fine city. While the streets are regrettable still flooded with the deceased, life within the residential zone has returned to a state of almost normalcy. In this area our citizens are protected by Legion guards, the streets are clean of all dead, and the citizens will soon enjoy the restoration of pluming services.
