Well starbucks, where i live, now accepts, EBT (food stamps). I'm dreadfully confused by this? I've been on food stamps, i barely had enough to feed my self and some of my family.

I don't know how they can accept food stamps, since you can't buy foods that are hot or meant to be eaten in store with them. Are you sure they don't just accept EBT cards for cash? People who get cash benefits also use EBT cards.

Some grocery store delis accept EBT (foodstamp) cards for 'hot' in-store foods but I don't think I've ever heard of a chain fastfood store accepting it.

If they accept foodstamps for hot foods they're breaking the law, and could face severe federal penalties. It's more likely that they accept EBT cards (which also carry cash benefits, as I stated in the last post).

Maybe they're relying on the fact that many working class people are vulnerable to being irresponsible with their money since they usually have not had a chance at education about it, have been brought up in a culture of poverty, and/or are victims of a ton of advertising that tells them they should buy shit they don't need.

This is just a shot in the dark, but if they plastic wrap a muffin, couldn't that be considered cold food for offsite consumption? Just wondering...

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. The common understanding is actually that you can't purchase "prepared food." But the specific wording states that it can't be hot or intended for consumption in store.

Yeah, I was just wondering because even though I've cashiered in a grocery store, I never really paid that close attention to what got covered and what didn't. I just rang the shit up and told the good people what they owed the bosses after they slid their cards. I've never had an EBT either even though I probably qualify as we speak now that I think of it...

They accept EBT but not union workers?

The food card I have allows for hot sandwhich/prepared foods. The catch is likely that they are wrapped/packaged a certain way.

I don't know what you have. But you're not allowed to use food stamps (now called Suplimental Nutritional Assistance Program -- SNAP) for hot foods:
Households CAN use SNAP benefits to buy:
Foods for the household to eat, such as:
-- breads and cereals;
-- fruits and vegetables;
-- meats, fish and poultry; and
-- dairy products.
Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.
In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept SNAP benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals.
Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:
Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco;
Any nonfood items, such as:
-- pet foods;
-- soaps, paper products; and
-- household supplies.
-- Vitamins and medicines.
-- Food that will be eaten in the store.
-- Hot foods.

The card won't work for items 'not allowed'.
