Owl Eyes

I'm 24 years old, and I live in the GOP-run US South. It doesn't make much of a difference, though; Republicans, Democrats --they're all liberals, ha ha.
If I had to give myself an -ism, it would be Communism. I'm a sucker for Badiou and Zizek. I know Zizek, polemic and sensational as he is, has a less-than-stellar reputation on this board, but I like him. I can't help myself. I'm flipping through The Parallax View right now, and so far it's been a lot of fun.
Anyway, I'm pretty pessimistic about democracy in general, so I don't conflate Communism with Socialism. Nor do I think I have much in common with most forms of anarchist thought. I recognize that anarchy doesn't imply lawlessness, but I should be clear that, crudely put, I am highly in favor of laws. We need more laws, and we need people to enforce them. I think most anarchists would be put off by my opinions, but I bear most political stances no antimony, save for one: internet libertarianism.
I spend a lot of my time arguing on the internet with Ayn Rand-loving Ron Paultards, and it gets really old. I used to be a libertarian (a common theme I've noticed on this board), and I have to admit there's a certain appeal to the simplicity of its platform: it's comforting to think that perhaps there's an essential balance in society that's only disrupted by the folly of government intervention.
--naivete at its worst, though. But it's a difficult platform to argue against in the simple terms the internet favors without becoming overly wordy. Positive freedom is more glamorous than negative freedom but far less essential. I'm telling you, those guys really piss me off sometimes.
I joined up to hang out with you guys and feel a sense of community. You'd think being a self-professed Communist, a sense of community would have been more important to me from the beginning. Instead I've found myself mostly trolling capitalists alone. Ugh, individualism, it's always hiding around the corner.
I'll probably be lurking the Theory board for a while before I post anything more, and if I've pissed anyone off, I apologize. Like I said, I like to save my flaming for the radical-capitalists that seem to be taking over the US Right these days (which terrifies me, btw). So I'm mostly just here to agree with people for a change.
