about two months ago i looked at the bottom of the homepage and there were about 30,000 members... now there's about 50,000! And the number of active members gone up to about 19,000... wtf? :mellow:

It's probably spambots signing up. Speaking of which, we just had one leave its turds all over the forum this morning.

This board has always had an active membership of about 1,500; now that number is close to 20,000.

Yep, all spambots. You're looking at at least 18,000 of them.

doesn't the forum have one of those distorted writing things when you sign up? like when you register for gmail or facebook...

I'm not sure what has caused this huge influx of bots, as up until recently we only had a few bots per day at the most, and now it seems almost every new member is a bot.

Another forum I'm at seems to be having a spambot problem too. I help with some moderator duties there and everyday we're getting a fuckton of those we have to send to the wall. I don't think we're the only forum this is happening to, there might very well be an exploit somewhere these bots have found or something.

It would certainly help alot to get a Captcha. It takes a few seconds more for someone signing up, but it stops bots so it's definitely worth it.

Doesn't that mean that if you do a Police Lineup of 10 Revlefters only ONE would be Human?

Look to your left and right and the odds are that everyone in the room including yourself is a Bot!

I'm pretty sure that I'm not a spambot. :confused:
