Ok, I really didn't know if this is the right place to put this, but last year my science teacher was very obviously right wing. One day she did a whole thing brainwashing everybody to show us global warming is a hoax. She often talked about her disagreement with making new whatever they're called light bulbs the only light bulbs, saying things like: "cause government thinks we're to stupid to look after ourselves" and when someone said "I want to move to Europe" she said: "Oh don't move there they have socialized medicare"

I clearly can't imagine a science teacher claiming global warming is false.

I also hate those terrible low-strenght lightbulbs the EU scum has made mandatory now (they even entirely banned 60W bulbs) Fuck them. Her argument against that isn't very good on the other hand, it's not like people individually decide what light-bulbs are made in the first place.

My eighth grade 'science' teacher was a creationist who would start lessons on evolution with something like, "Welp, the gubment makes me teach you this, but if you don't believe it that's OK. Personally, I believe in the Bible." And this was a public school...

I must be really lucky because even in Libertarian Las Vegas I never had a far right teacher. I had a Green Party teacher who once gave us a mini lecture on why choosing the lesser evils in elections is stupid and a, uh, out there teacher who encouraged me to read Dead Kennedys lyrics for some assignment, but never a right wing teacher.

I have a Professor who is about as Pro-capitalist as I have ever seen on a campus...well other than some Economics Professors. He teaches English though so it really isn't a big deal.

I had a radical Environmental Science teacher. We shared booklists, websites, documentaries, and had many discussions on current events and Leftist politics. She made me a radical Environmentalist, and I made her a Communist. Good times. :thumbup1:

I live in a right-wing state, but all my high-school science teachers (biology, chemistry, astronomy, etc.) seemed pretty left-leaning on their stances. They all believed in global warming, so thank god I didn't have "the government is creating hoaxes!" type of teacher leading us in the ways of SCIENCE.
My chemistry teacher occasionally played some good metal tunes when we had free time to work on research or papers

In 8th grade I had a left leaning science teacher and he had anti-war stickers on his car and in the class room. I was surprised he wasn't kicked out because my city is pretty right wing/christian fundamentalist and teachers usually get kicked out for stuff like that. He could of been a socialist or something like that, but i never asked him.

I think I've said this here before, but the only right-wing teacher I've had was an economics professor in my freshman year of college.
"Karl Marx was an idiot who couldn't balance his budget" or some variation of that.

I used to have a subtitute who subtituted for a month that said his favorite philosopher was Marx. Which made him even cooler because he mostly disregarded the outline he was given and taught what he wanted us to learn about the events we were covering in history. Some days the whole class would just debate politics for the whole period. He also beat-boxed...He's going to start teaching at a community college, I hope I get one of his classes.

just curious, what exactly was the outline about? was it pro-capitalist or something because it sounds that way if he disregarded it to teach history his way.

That's fucking ridiculous, albeit expected. America's education system has been deteriorating for years, which essentially serves as a bulwark against public awareness and consciousness. When the national school system emphasizes obedience to forms of authority over critical thinking the natural outcome will be the former. This suits the elites just fine. By allowing our education to rot, they ensure the creation of a largely obedient class of workers.
Oh, and your teacher is a moron.

Well he would go over what we were supposed to go over then we'd usually discuss it. With the real teacher we would read about it, do the assignment in the journal and that was about it. So for example if we were going over Andrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears we would have read the book, do the assignment on it and then move on. With the sub he would go over what the book says, add some of his own knowledge about the different tribes, give more details about the journey they had to endure, etc, then he would ask us what we thought about it. Turned out we had some kids who thought genocide was justified if we did it. Then he would just give us the answers for our assignments. It was like an interactive history class, it was awesome, and I think other people actually learned some things.

Nah man, like socialized medicare is like the government telling the doctors what to do to you, so it like totally infringes on doctor-paitient freedom. If we allow for socialized medicare then the government will decide whether we live or die eventually. Its like totally unconstitutional.

I had an history teacher that praised on how new deal and labour parties in england spain and france saved the world form the great depression.
She clearly told us that the keynesian polices was how the left saved europe.
I remeber my book had 4 pages on stalin, 2 explained the repression and dictatorship and other 2 the 5 year plans and kolkozes and sovkozes(however its spelled)
We never read about the economic policies and how the production increasead but we took a 90 m class on how communism and nazism are the same thing, she compared a nazi salute to a stalin drawing and shit.
We had a russian guy and our teacher was saying the posters said that stalin was the great gardener and some weird stuff then when they had the russian guy translating it didnt mean any of what we have been told(lol).
Communism was also compared to fascist italy whose propaganda posters were also miss interpreted , my book also had a full chapter on workers conditions in industrial age, communist manifesto, first unions, strikes,...
I had a feeling my teacher gave a good impresion of Marx telling us he was a philosopher but telling us his ideas had never worked would never work and were mere good intentions, screwed it up.
At least we didnt skip the part were the book told us the communist manifesto influenced the unions that gave the workers their first rights.
Oh and russian revolution classes I almost forgot that was pwng we had to make 2 line sentences to describe the russian revolution, I liked to see that we didnt hear how the czar (we had some lights on bloody sunday) was brutal but we were quickly told that under lenin russia opressed other countries and how lenin imposed the most brutal dictatorship(maybe in oposition to the democratic czar).
Many of my classmates came to hate communism.:crying:

My science teacher, on the topic of globally warming, said "If you don't want to believe in global warming that's fine. But then you can not believe in any of the scientific methods used to determine globally warmings existence, such as air pressure, chemistry or even measurement. So if you disagree with me that's fine, but then I want to see your note for dropping biology, chemistry and algebra, or I will flunk you." I was like yes!

My teachers were usually pretty normal,I don't think they ever really got into politics much. One teacher said a third party would never get elected to the presidency, but that only came after she said that she only just discovered America had a communist party  .....other than that, along with teh other small things they teach in history class about colonization,my teachers were never interested in talking politics, but rather,in actually teaching their respective subject.
Last year,in ENG 101 I did have a social-democrat leaning teacher though and it was always great fun hearing her little rants about the system. She had a gay son too so she was very pro-queer.Great semester that one was!

I've taught at many colleges over the last 15 years. Most of the teachers I have met are socialists. Most of them separate their ideals from the subjects they teach.

Yeah most of the teachers I've had are also socialists, save a few. I demolished a biology teacher before when she stated that she is one of the people who doesn't believe in evolution. I asked her why aren't we required to study from the bible in your class but a biology textbook WITH evolution being promoted. 'nuff said.

I had an English professor earlier this week use poorly written Welfare Applications as some kind of "hilarious" teaching example of poor writing. I found it in rather piss poor taste and completely classist. I guess it is just hilarious that those damn people on welfare can't write and probably shouldn't be on it.

What a douche. Maybe if poor neighborhoods had decent schools the people who wrote them would have a better education and not need welfare in the first place. Oh, yeah but then rich guys might only be able to afford 5 houses, 8 cars, 2 yachts and 1 plane and we can't have that so we have to keep cutting their taxes.

Err, no there isn't. There is almost no peer-reviewed science that challenges the main threads of the theory of global warming. That is why the debate has had to shift from 'global warming is not real, it's a hippy conspiracy' to 'OK global warming is real, but humans aren't responsible'.
You see what they did there? They totally changed tack, did a 180 shift on the existence of global warming, but then claimned it didn't matter that they spent 20 years being wrong, because there was nothing we could or should do. The whole point about the anti-global warming theory movement in the '80s and '90s was predicated on the fact that the 'problem' didn't exist.
Things have changed radically. The argument has now to changed to 'even if global warming is real (and as I say most of the anti-global warming 'scientists' are now admitting it's real) then, if it's not caused by humans, it doesn't matter'. In other words, oil companies should be allowed to ruin the environment and people should drive 4x4s in cities and logging companies should cut down the forests because it doesn't have any significant effect on global temperatures.
Given that they've had to abandon pretty much every position that they initially adopted, I think the 'anti-global warming scientists' (I use the term very losely) need to be approached with extreme caution (and, if you investigate who's funding them, it almost always comes down to oil and logging companies).
