Hey I don't really know if this has already been posted but here it is anyway.

The Slovakian Goverment recently voted a new law which from 1st Semptember 2011 whoever refuses or justifies the "crimes" of the communism ideology will be prisoned for 6 months or even 3 years.This is a very bad law which enhances nazism and nationalism.I hope that the communist people(if any in Slovakia) of Slovakia manage to remove this law because it is not democratic at all.

Με νόμο από την 1η Σεπτέμβρη θα διώκεται ποινικά και θα τιμωρείται με έξι μήνες ως τρία χρόνια φυλάκιση «όποιος αρνείται να δεχτεί ή προσπαθεί να δικαιολογήσει τα εγκλήματα του καθεστώτος που βασίζονται στην κομμουνιστική ιδεολογία».

Τα απανωτά κρούσματα αντικομμουνισμού, σε ολοένα και περισσότερες χώρες της ΕΕ, οι προσπάθειες να ανακηρύξουν την 23η Αυγούστου ως μέρα εξίσωσης του κομμουνισμού με το φασισμό, αποτελούν πειστήριο ότι η συκοφαντική αντικομμουνιστική υστερία είναι αποφασισμένη και δρομολογημένη από την ΕΕ και την αστική τάξη σε κάθε χώρα.

Η ένταση του αντικομμουνισμού αποτελεί αναγκαίο συμπλήρωμα των αντεργατικών μέτρων που παίρνει το κεφάλαιο σε συνθήκες όξυνσης των αντιθέσεων και βαθέματος της καπιταλιστικής κρίσης. Ανησυχεί τους κεφαλαιοκράτες ότι πλατύτατες λαϊκές δυνάμεις στις πρώην σοσιαλιστικές χώρες νοσταλγούν το σοσιαλισμό που γνώρισαν, μπροστά στα αδιέξοδα του καπιταλισμού, την ανεργία, τη φτώχεια, την εξαθλίωση, την κατάργηση εργατικών - λαϊκών δικαιωμάτων και κατακτήσεων. Όμως οι κεφαλαιοκράτες ανησυχούν διπλά γιατί οι κομμουνιστές, παρά τις δυσκολίες, πρωτοστατούν στην οργάνωση των λαϊκών αγώνων, αναδεικνύοντας την ανάγκη ανατροπής της καπιταλιστικής βαρβαρότητας και την οικοδόμηση του σοσιαλισμού - κομμουνισμού.

Το ΚΚΕ εκφράζει την αλληλεγγύη του στο ΚΚ Σλοβακίας και θα πρωτοστατήσει για να δυναμώσει η πίεση, ώστε να παρθούν πίσω τα αντικομουνιστικά μέτρα και να σταματήσουν οι διώξεις στη Σλοβακία, αλλά και στην υπόλοιπη Ευρώπη, να δυναμώσει η πάλη για το σοσιαλισμό - κομμουνισμό.

The Communist Party expresses its solidarity with the Communist Party of Slovakia will lead to strengthen the pressure to be picked back anti-communist measures and stop the persecution in Slovakia and elsewhere in Europe, to strengthen the struggle for socialism - communism.

.I hope that the communist people of Slovakia manage to remove this law because it is not democratic at all.

i'd love to find these "communist people" you're talking about. the communist movement in eastern europe has either been destroyed or has morphed into parties that range from a very weak social-democratic outlook or pure nostalgic nationalism. we need more working class action, not "communist people"

Does Slovakia have similar laws about fascism, or is this yet another step towards the rehabilitation of the nazi's?
Obviously this is not a precise answer, but Zizek mentioned this whole issue in a recent lecture. (He also comments on the counter-intuitive relationship between Nazism and other fascisms posed by many some European conservatives.)

This law is censorship at work and is counterproductive if one weeks a true democracy IMO. If I was a Slovak communist I would seek to get this law repealed or at least raise awareness about it. It seems to me like the Slovakian government wants to limit the rights of its people to choose whatever political party they feel best represents them.

Left calls for protests over new legislation

Progressive parties are gearing up for protests in solidarity with Slovak communists and their allies on Thursday when draconian anti-communist legislation is scheduled to kick in in Slovakia.

Slovakian MPs recently amended the country’s penal code to empower courts to jail anyone who is deemed to have denied, applauded or attempted to justify the “crimes of the regime which was based on the communist ideology” for up to three years.

It will come into force on Thursday.

At the weekend the working group of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) called on all affiliated organisations to launch “protest actions of every kind” and to “express their internationalist solidarity with the CP of Slovakia.”

The Communist Party of Israel immediately affirmed its support for the party and “its martyrs who liberated their country from nazism and fascism.”

The CPI saluted the contribution of Slovakian communists in “building their country and in the provision of the foundations of progress for their people.”

Turkey’s Labour Party also spoke out, expressing confidence that this latest attempt to “ban communists from politics” will fail because “the organisation of the working class, its struggle for power with its own party cannot be prevented.”

Last year the 12th IMCWP held in South Africa resolved to “resolutely fight anti-communism, anti-communist laws, measures and persecution” and “defend the history of the communist movement, the contribution of socialism in advancing human civilisation.”

As I can understand it from what little I've read, it appears to be similar to the various "anti-Communist" legislation present in some former Eastern Bloc states that allow the country to persecute those who are perceived to have defended the 'injustices' of the previous regimes.

It doesn't out straight ban the Communists, but it will make their political activity a lot more difficult and their platform much more open to criticism. This will lead the party to an even more reformist direction in order to gain legitimacy or risk getting shut down at some point.

Yeah, those countries weren't communist. Even their governments never claimed they were, claiming instead to be socialist (as in Union of Soviet Socialist Republics).

This isn't new. I'm sure some of you will remember the previous efforts by Vaclav Klaus and the ODS to try and ban the Communst Party of Bohemia and Moravia in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, political discourse in Slovak politics over the past ten years or so, perhaps barring a blip in the last election, has been one that has witnessed a climbing support for both the 'civic' right and the far-right Slovenská národná strana. Similar countries have also had such legislation on the table for a while now, and could easily follow suit.

I don't know about that. Given, representation of the far-right is lower, but support for National Union Attack in Bulgaria is constantly around 10%, with around 20 or so seats and 2 MEPs.

That's just a little higher than support for the hard right-populist Northern League in today's Italy.
