View Full Version : A Story About a Cell Phone
¿Que?

I was talking to a friend of mine, who told me T-Mobile had $50 unlimited talk, text and data plans that could be used with iPhones. See, I'm one of the few lucky people that was on AT&T pay as you go with one of these fantastic devices. I basically turned everything off that would try to connect to the internet automatically, so as not to use up my minutes checking my email every 15 minutes. Well, I used it for a while like that, but I always wanted data. The AT&T pay per data plans were very expensive, and besides technically I wasn't supposed to be able to use data on a pay as you go plan and an iPhone, although I downloaded something that would let me do it. So later on that night, I came to a cell phone shop, of which I entered and inquired about the iphone and the T-Mobile plan. Well, the iPhone had to be jailbroken, and it was all happening so fast, I was like fuck it, jailbreak it. So now my iPhone is jailbroken and on T-Mobile. AT&T has a similar $50 plan, but they jack up the price for iphones. as far as T-Mobile knows, they have no idea what kind of phone I'm using. Well, it's working out pretty nice, except there is a 2G cap on data, and I can only use the edge network. But whatever, I'm finally free of AT&T free to explore the deep, rich, vibrant world of cell phone carriers.
Except that I'm not. A big and I mean BIG merger between AT&T and T-Mobile is set to happen as soon as some regulatory agency approves it, and they will. In spite of the fact that if Verizon does something similar with sprint, the US will be under an effective cell phone duopoly, driving up rates, and cutting jobs. We're all screwed.

MetroPCS isn't bad if you're in an area where they have coverage. Unlimited talk, text, 4G LTE, international calling and international text costs $70 a month all in.

There's coverage, but it seems like it would not work well on the iphone. Although I could just buy a different phone, and use the iphone as a paper weight. I got it free anyway, and it's only a 3G.

I thought your phone story was gonna be more like my phone story.
The story where my phone got wet, and my dad put it in the oven to dry it out. And my mom came home and turned on the oven to bake food, not realizing the phone was in there. And so the phone melted. Lol.
But yeah.... AT&T are horrible corporate bloodsuckers, etc. and if they own T-mobile that will be a sad day for everyone. O_O

That's a much better story, except that I lived mine and you lived yours.
That's happened to me with pizza boxes, but srsly, there's something I don't get...
...why did your dad put your phone in the oven? If it wasn't on, how was it going to dry the phone? :/

That's why I don't deal with either company.

Corporate if you do, corporate if you don't. But here's some encouraging news I suppose:
(08-31) 07:50 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --
The Justice Department is blocking AT&T's $39 billion deal to buy T-Mobile USA, saying the acquisition of the No. 4 wireless carrier in the country by No. 2 AT&T would reduce competition and raise prices.

The oven was on. Just on a really low temperature. My mom turned it on to a really high temperature.

Hoping the merger doesn't happen. I won't be able to afford to use 3g if it does... :(

Why don't you sell your Iphone and purchase an android phone? I hear the Galaxy S series sell for 1 cent now, and they are very good phones.

That's something to consider. I'll look into it. Thanks!
