When did communists start calling each other comrade? Why comrade...hell, why not pal..or chum...or buddy...or something of the likes? hahaha. So...why comrade?...Who coined it? et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...whoever knows anything about it...gimme the full spill. Thanks. Chau.

It was used because it showed equality and solidarity among the workers/socialists (as opposed to terms like mr.) It was coined during the French Revolution, I don't know who coined it, but it came from "camarada", which meant something along the lines of roomate or companion in Spanish.

I know that the term 'comrade' was used in the Spanish Civil War because I remember Orwell referring to it. But I think that it was also used in the Russian revolution as a term of equality - perhaps a shortening of 'comrade in arms' which suggests an equal reliance on one another for safety and support.

well i might be jumpoing off conclusions and stuff but if i remember, the expression comrade comes from warfare, (comrade-in-arms), now i might be wrong, but i think that it was firstly used during the russian revolution, one cannot forget that the soldiers were a significant part of the movement, so i would say that the term comrade, that has been used for centurys in the army, was brought to the movement by the russian revolution...



yet again, i can be wrong on this...

during the French Revolution the word "camarade" became very popular
it spread like wildfire across europe afterwards
