Comrades, do you think there's any point in pressuring politicians in favor of social change through petitions? If so, can anyone recommend some good petition websites to subscribe to via email (I already know of Campaign for Peace and Democracy for example)?

Or is it maybe too transparent and anti-security culture to have our names associated with leftist causes in such a way?

It can't hurt, but I wouldn't put too much confidence in it. I use labourstart (www.labourstart.org), puts pressure on corporations exploiting their workers. There's Care2 Action, online petitions for all kinds of stuff: http://www.care2.com/causes/

Once you sign enough petitions though you'll check your email in the morning to find dozens of them waiting for you, and you'll begin to consider them spam and start ignoring them.
