I thought id start a thread for all of our members here who play in, or play an orchestral instrument, to discuss the finer points of playing. Likes and dislikes of certain orchestral pieces. Favorite to play, or best composed piece of music.
ect ect.

Thought this might be a good place to put it all in.

I personally played in orchestra's since i was 10 years old.
Taught Cello, String Bass, and some Violin for about 2 years.
My favorite piece to play is Bach's Cello Suite No. 1, specifically the prelude

Mischa Maisky
Plays it the best from what ive listened to

I play the bassoon. Our orchestra is quite awesome and we always play all kinds of cool music - from the baroque era to modern, 20th century ones.

I play the contrabass (I prefer the French bow of course), I was also the section leader of my orchestra. By far my favorite piece that we ever played was Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. I however detest playing modern music such as Led Zepplin's Kashmir. I will play film scores, yeah but contemporary music such as that from rock bands and other such things, no, absolutely not. I prefer to play only the classics, my favorite thing to play by myself is Beethovan's shit.

Night on Bald Mountain is a GREAT piece. But from a cello players perspective, its extremely boring to play

I play the piano on our local orchestra. We actually play both classical music and contemporary. But classical songs on piano are easier (at least for me) than the ones of the contemporary.
My favorite ones are
The Cinematic Orchestra - To build a home
and
Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata.
