If this in the wrong forum, my apologies
On May 2011, Forbes ranked her, for the fifth consecutive time, as the world's top-earning model with an estimated $45 million over the past 12 months.
She does alot of work for various charities too (including giving $250,000 to Japanese Red Cross in the wake of the earthquake an tsunami)
My immediate reaction to reading this is one of anger and revulsion at the amount of wealth obtained from such a meaningless 'job' but then I read about charity work and wonder if I'm being too harsh. I know she's not the only one, it's just this story caught my eye today.
Your thoughts?

The charity just makes it worse.

A small percentage of people in some professions make a whole lot of money. People who play sports, musicians, actors, models.
I certainly don't blame anyone for taking advantage of the system if they get a chance. If someone offers you a boatload of money to wear different clothes and have your picture taken that sure beats having someone offer you next to nothing for mopping floors or flipping burgers. I'd say, yeah, do that first one. Sounds like a deal.

It seems fucking stupid to earn more than most people do in a lifetime simply because you were born looking good, and for that reason, given the choice of modeling or scrubbing shit off the floor, I'd like to think I'd pick the latter.
Obviously this decision wouldn't be so easy if I were ever actually faced with it, but I've told myself my whole life that modeling is stupid and exploitative, and I'm not one to go against my ideas if it's only for selfish personal gain.
So I'm pretty pissed that Gisele can make this much money off of being born decent looking. (don't find her very attractive myself)

Having dated models, I can honestly say, without a doubt that the entire industry is complete bullshit and I have yet to meet a model who is 'good looking' enough (on camera or off camera) to 'earn' such a wage. It fucking pisses me off to no end, seriously, so you're not a circus freak and you can be shown out in the day light, (obviously that's worth 45 million a year), come the fuck on. Half the models I've met don't even know what the fuck they're doing and have to be directed by the photographer. It's not a craft nor is it a trade it's a bunch of bourgeois nonsense is what it is.

I know people who would say: "Good for her, she earned it, she worked hard" and they will believe every word they say.
If I question it, they'll accuse me of being negative.

$45,000,000? Bougie misconception of value.

There's a lot more wrong with modeling than how much money the models make. My ex was a former model by the time we got together... I used to hear horror stories about how she and a girlfriend who worked together basically lived on saltines and chocolate laxatives for two years. And this was when they were 15-16 year old girls. You gotta remember that like in any of the other "glamorous" professions (professional athletes, musicians, actors, etc.) for every Giselle Bundchen there are thousands of people like my ex who literally torture themselves for no good reason... And those people can hardly be blamed for what they do; hell, it was her mother that pushed her into it when she was like 5.
