But what people recognize is that there’s a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward. And especially with this very bad debt ceiling bill, what we have done is given a favor to President Obama and the first thing he’ll whack is five hundred billion out of the military defense at a time when we’re fighting three wars. People recognize that.”

Zombie Stalin wants to take away our freedoms! ZOMG! (At least Sarah Palin was smart enough to call it Russia.)

(Not to mention that Obama is one of the largest military spenders of all time.)

The cognitive dissonance is stunning. How do you talk about waning US hegemony and its debt problems, and then maintain that our military needs more funding to continue the wars that our draining our treasury? Cause, fighting imperialist wars indefinitely is somehow the way to beat China, India, and (the ghost of) the USSR? Not, you know, invest in your own population, infrastructure, or anything...

Wow...

Firstly, we're already seeing the rise of China - I read somewhere that it's predicted that China will be the world's largest economy around 2020, it will be great to see the USA finally fall from the top spot within my lifetime.

Secondly, that guy is livin' in the past, he thinks the Soviet Union still exists () and that the world is just about who has the biggest military...

Thirdly, why would cutting the defense budget by 500 billion be a bad thing? And that's the typical American arrogant attitude - whenever someone is a threat to their dominance of the world they are an 'enemy' (see the Soviet Union and the Cold War).

I've seriously ran into people who think Russia is still "Communist" so the stupidity isn't surprising.

Bachmann is the one that practices magic right? I jest, that's the other crazy. They aren't very different really. Bachmann, Palin, the crazy witch one. They talk like parrots, don't understand what they say or why they are told to say this. Just a bunch of parrots.

Black Eyes, China's economy will outgrow America's in 2016.

I am half-hoping that she will win.

Why?

Because it might radicalise people.

A victory by a right wing ideologue (whether Bachman or Ron Paul) will expose the contradictions of the US presidency in dramatic ways.

For example, Paul claims he'll close all the off shore military bases and end all military engagements with which the US is presently involved. If he even tries it the Pentagon may remove him. Bachmann has an apocalyptic foreign policy plan for the Middle East that includes attacking Iran and that will start a general war in the entire region; the disruption of the Middle Eastern oil supply to the rest of the world will precipitate a global depression.

In short, any far right victory in the next US presidential election will bring the country that much closer to imperial collapse.

The world fears America.

That's the price of being the imperial cradle of capitalism.

Complaining about the astronomical debt then complaining about potential cuts to military spending in the same short statement? There's word for people like this and it rhymes with mucking foron...

It's a shame she won't make it through the primaries, I can only imagine how hilarious a Bachmann ticket would be to watch in the general. We would be treated to torrents of gems such as this on a daily basis, it would be just wonderful.

I mean, it's terrifying when you think of the incredible military power she would have at her command if she somehow won, but beyond that it would be most amusing.

OMG can you imagine a Bachmann/Palin ticket.

I can and you can bet that I have. It's sort my personal dream for the 2012 presidential race, it would be so incredibly great to watch the two of them flail about in tandem across every medium of political discourse.

It may even radicalized the proletarian to a certain extent as well, if they were confronted with forces so flagrantly opposed to their welfare and interests.

The instant they start instituting a state religion will be the moment the proletariat mobilizes.

How to understand the difference between republicans and Democrats: torture

Republicans support torture and torturers because they think it makes them tough, bad-ass, feared and respected. Democrats support letting torturers walk because they think it serves the purpose of partisan and personal political expediency. In either case, they both come down on the side of torture and torturers, and likewise across the board on every issue. It's an essential ingredient to successfully imposing a hegemonic order that the various indispensable social elements can find their own individual justifications for supporting the hegemonic order.

Iran's regime should definitely be taken down, but if Bachmann thinks that she can do so by warfare and imposition she's more of an idiot for it.

In my poli sci 101 class. (note that our school had just started an exchange program with a school in China, so about 1/3 of the class was Chinese, and the professor was in his first semester and is from South Korea)

I had to argue with an 18 year old girl (this was my second to last semester, took the class for kicks) who insisted we needed our defense budget to keep away all the "little crappy communist countries who want to go after us................like...........................J apan, South Korea, and Russia)

This class was also a morning class in a fall semester. I'm so glad our Chinese exchange students got to see the competition a la the average American teenager.
