Movies, you watch movies dont you? Yeah films and stuff like that, sometimes they have music - it's this music I wish to concentrate on for a moment.... If you can find the time maybe you too can select some of your favourites - it's fun and not really demanding...
Let me try! Hmm... how about Lalo Schifrin and his exemplary work on such great treats as - Bullit and Enter the Dragon?
May I also be so bold as to mention Herbie Hancock's riotous score for the 1960's classic fable - The Italian job?
No? Ok then.. Yes I'm a bit ill.. - I have flu...

The Matrix and Pulp Fiction have classic soundtracks, and I quite like the music in the The Faculty.

The sound tracks for both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are classics but I also like the sound track for Pulp Fiction - a nice bit of Iggy Pop on that and a few other classic tracks. The sound track for fight club by the Dust Brothers is also a good one with some cool electronic sounds.

Most James Bond movies had good soundtracks, especially the oldest ones. The action music from The Spy Who Loved me is also great: Bond 77 (http://www.geocities.com/bsarlald/sspywho2.mp3)

Anything by John Williams is always great: Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, etc.
Also, Danny Elfman is awesome: Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissor Hands
My favorite though is Requim for a Dream. That's a great movie, with a kick-ass soundtrack.

Quite, John Barry's scores for those films are absolutley integral to the whole Bond experience.... Lately, in an appeal to the "yoof" they are drafting in absurd creatures like Madonna for the scores... They should have a rethink though the Propellerheads with Shirley Bassey was a good effort....
Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction
Tarantino uses music to full effect in all his movies...

Forrest Gump the soundtrack is fanstastic .awesome how is changes through the decades.
Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are classics too I will never think the same way of "Stuck In the Middle With You" since that scene with Mr Blonde (Michael Madsen) and the Cop.
John Williams probally made the best orchestral soundtracks for over 30 years.
plus are we talking about the soundtracks used during the film or the compilation albums because most soundtrack albums these days feature music no played in the film (see every slasher/horror movie over the past 6 years).
I perfer to look at soundtrack on how they are used in the film itself instead of compilations that feature nearly 0% of the music used in the film.

btw Pulp Fiction brought back surf music a bit because of the opening track with Dick Dale.

The movies with the best music normaly tend to be musicals. I like The Wall with music by Pink Floyd, Tommy with music by The Who, A Hard Days Night, Help, and Yellow Submarine with music by the Beatles, Purple Rain by Prince, Chicago, there are others that don't come to mind right now. There are also the more traditional Broadway musicals, some of which are also movies like Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, etc. which also have some great music. Aside from musicals, I hardly ever observe the music in a movie, unless it's aclaimed for it's exceptional music like O Brother Where art Thou, Titanic, etc.

I respect Madonna a lot, but I just can't accept that she performs the theme song. I didn't mind her being in the movie, though. I really want to see Prince do a theme song once...

2001: A Space Odyssey has a great soundtrack, my personal favorite. A Clockwork Orange has very good music in it but I'm not sure if a soundtrack is avaiable, same thing goes for Lawrence of Arabia. Pulp Fiction and The Matrix are also definetly in my top 5 as well as most of you.

I agree on Graduate though. The Woodstock and Monterey Pop Festival Movies, too, had good soundtracks ;)

Some of the Beatles films which admittedly are a bit naff are are still good because of the sound tracks which they carry - yellow submarine being an example. Cool artwork as well in them.

Yeah... the storyline of Help and A Hard Day's Night is basicaly a bunch of random events that place the Beatles in situations where they play and/or dance to their music.

How about? The Omen, the Exorcist, Poltergiest and Psycho for scary arse music.. Jaws has to be up there too for it's atmospheric, haunting, throbbing chords... The shower scene in Psycho is accompanied by what is surely some of the most terrifyingly shrill strings ever heard... This is the power of music in film...

Right on, man, Jimmy Cliff can't be denied, and he helped put reggae on the map in L'America.
But I've got to bring up Shaft, with the great theme by Isaac Hayes, man, that guy puts the soul in my shoe.
"He's one bad motha--SHUT YO' MOUTH!!--But I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft---Well we can dig it"
and nobody gets my mojo risin' like quincy jones, i.e. Austin Powers theme
