I was somewhat intoxicated when I saw this, and the intro to the film really intrigued me at the time (with the whole car crash and piano thing). Really liked the visual palette in this one.

Story was OK. Adam Sandler plays a guy with some unresolved issues, especially regarding his violent explosive temper. He becomes romantically entangled with Emily Watson, who's also kind of a weirdo. He also has to fight off a pack of redneck mafioso's from Utah (commanded by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) who are trying to extort money from him. All in all it's pretty good, though. I believe this was Sandler's first dramatic role.

Any opinions?

Big fan of "Punch drunk love." I actually think it's one of Sandler's best films. It's a bit slow in places and it's certainly not what the average Sandler fan expects but I can't think of a deeper, more complex character he's played. I just remember feeling sorry for him. He's seething with rage, his family thinks he's a joke, he's lonely and frustrated. The whole thing made me feel his anxiety. Then he finds love and his world finally means something. When he finally finds a positive outlet for his rage, I wanted to cheer.
