I'm already in the 70's clearly this isn't just people clicking +1 or something.

I think it is, you post, people thank it, you get +1 reputation points.

There's another way I'm not sure about to raise or lower other people's reputation by more than one point based on how much rep power you have. I think.

When a person 'thanks' a post it adds 1 rep. When a person uses the scale to add rep it adds an amount determined by the rep of the person giving rep.

Indeed.
Rep power determines how much rep you get from a person (like me repping you would give you 24 rep points). They can also take rep via the scales, though this is only half their rep power.

how is reputation accrued? One posts thought provoking, interesting posts and gets a handful of and slowly build up reputation points from a slow trickle of thanks from the few members who read them with a view to anything other than sniping at a sentence or two you disagree with. Then one quotes someone elses post, having found an appropriate sentence, excoriates the person vociferously and possibly calls them and anyone who agrees with them a bell-end (or gobshite or cocksatchel or pisszepplin or whatever) and recieves a huge influx of thanks and positive reputation from about a third of the website's active membership. I'm fairly sure that's how it's done anyway.

You post a lot of good one-liner's. Well thought-out posts don't get thanked because people don't like reading, even though the internet is a completely text-based place.

NoOneIsIllegal said it quite well, if you want rep just go the route of posting quite and witty agitprop.
Of course you can always get caught up in sprawling multi-user thank war, where each respective side has each other thanking posts which pack up their views, but that actually requires a bit more effort and can be tiresome.

Maybe someday I'll sit down and write something useful. I'll get neg-repped for it though :(

My ratio is pretty horrible, I spend too much time writing out actual posts. Though I'm not above posting a snarky comment or two every now and then.

Or you can post in Reactionary Chatter in OI and receive rep for posting funny pics, etc. random shit you would otherwise put in Chit-Chat and not get rep for ;)

I do a bit of both, mostly long speeches biting the heads off of our visiting capitalists or in the latest cast our visiting fascist.

Maybe I should pop my head in O.I. for once. Pretty sure I've posted there less than 5 times...

The website is there, I hadn't been on it in a while so I lurked it the other day, not much activity, but they have a crew in the midwest who are going to protests and shit under the RAAN banner, but nothing as big as they used to have, and nothing as diverse as they used to be/wanted to be.
Though recently two people on my tumblr had RAAN related posts and I talked to one of them who turned out to be a RAANista, and we had a few posts back and forth about why I bailed on RAAN, and he was still down with them.
There is now the "Anarchist International" (http://anarchistinternational.org/wordpress/), which I am fairly confident is an (ex?)RAANista, and which I happen to be kind of into, and I can see some RAAN influence on it.
