I just saw a documentary on "real life superheroes," ie people who dress up and patrol the streets for crime. Really rather interesting, they seem like ordinary people who get fed up with nobody caring about the problems plaguing their cities(there's one scene where a cop car blatantly ignores an attempt to flag it down) and go to take care of it themselves.
A very interesting thing is that a large part of it is helping and protecting the homeless, and some of them even do a sort of mobile FnB, carrying food and water when they patrol.
If you can find it, it's an HBO documentary called "Superheroes."

As long as they don't treat people engaging in certain types of crime as heartless thugs, as opposed to people driven to lives of crime because of capitalism, and instead work for safer cities through a variety of means, they have my vote of confidence. I'd trust a man in a mask more than someone with a badge.

Working class superheroes:
Flagman--able to divert an entire line of traffic with a single wave of his arm!
Cleaning Lady--she makes all your mistakes just go away!

It does have a certain ring of the Black Guards and Red Guards of Russia. Not to mention the Black Panthers.

if they're helping homeless people, whatever. if they're going around looking for 'criminals' and helping the police, fuck em

There was something about these people on Channel 4 recently, don't know if its the same doc. At first it was quite funny because there were a bunch of people acting like they were totally insane, then it was upseting because it became obvious that it was just a bunch of people who were totally insane.

One group was trying to combat drug dealers by driving them away from the parks etc without trying to arrest them. Also, one group was trying to combat homophobic and sexist attacks on people.
They didn't really involve the police unless they had to.

From the documentary it seemed like they generally have a strained relationship with the police, and only call them when absolutely necessary, but IDK.
