What a disgusting ad campaign displaying the American military as a benevolent being.

I saw this commercial awhile ago, this is actually a lot better (if inaccurate) than the Navy's old recruiting motto of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of those who threaten it!"

When did they air that commercial?

When did they air that commercial?

I'm not sure if they ever made a commercial for the pursuit motto I just saw it on a poster.

My dad was in the navy and I told him about this new slogan thing. Says it's a great slogan for a US military branch, if you phrase it right
THE US NAVY

A GLOBAL FORCE - FOR GOOD

Still isn't as bad as this Marines ad. If you join the Marines you will battle giant lava monsters on your quest to obtain Excalibur!

What they should show is the dropping of 1k and 1.5k lbs. aid packages on local villes. That should warm the hearts and minds of those dirty brown people down there...until the fires go out that is.

I would venture to say the Goast Guard isn't quite as bad as the Navy but they do, atleast I think, stop "illegal," immigrants from crossing into America, stop the smuggling of drugs and other goods into America and other such things. I don't know what else they do except save people at sea and what not. Aren't they known as 'the lifesavers'?

Largely they do Maritime Rescue within US Territorial Waters but they also do Drug Interdiction, Counter-Terrorism Operations and like you said search and seizure of vessels who are harboring "illegal" immigrants.

If it weren't for the immigrant part I would join the coast guard myself... Oh well, off to college.

Same here, the Coast Guard doesn't seem so bad plus you'd get all the bonuses that other service persons get without any of the guilt or aid towards US imperialism. Free housing (if they have bases), decent wages, quick advancement in the workforce, awesome medicial and dental, awesome retirement.

I've run into the same problem myself. I would like to do Civic Service work in order to help people but almost all those jobs have duties that I find utterly unsavory and couldn't do with a clean conscience.

o well this is ok I guess

There is a Coast Guard base in my town and they mostly do rescues of sinking boats/swimmers etc.

If anyone has seen the movie/read the book "The Perfect Storm"

Yea those guys are pretty bad ass. Flying a chopper with waves passing 2 feet underneath it.
