As a young left wing Israeli, I would like to talk about this complicated subject.
After five minutes of reading in this forum I already noticed an anti Israel comment.
I myself do not support the corrent israeli government, because it is right wing, capitalistic and sadly very fascist.
Even though I believe in peace, I will have to serve in the army, meaning I will might have to fight.
Even though I am an athiest and left wing ( which in Israel means I support giving Palestine back some of Israels corrent turf ) I can understand why most of the people here are right winged.
According to jewish religion, which as you know is the most common in Israel, the land that Israel sits on was given to the jewish people by god and jerusalem is the most sainted city.
As stupid as it seems to me, I can respect that and understand why people wont want to give away what as they belive is the promised land and even fight for it.
Unfortently, every side has extreamests. The extreme right not only does not believe in giving away land, they want to kick out of the country all the arabs ( FASCISTS! ) and of course believe in capitalism.
History has shown that Israel has a strong left, and in the 90's Itzhak Rabin was the Prime minister and the government was left.
He brought the country the closest we ever got to peace with Palestine but he was asassinated by an extreame right winged man.
In the years sense the left got weeker.
The protests that are going on now a days, even though they are social and not political, are guided by the left and it seems as it is getting stronger.
the more it gets stronger the more we get closser to peace.
I hope that in the 3 years I have left as a free man we will get peace in the whole middle east, and me and many more people who do not believe in war, will not br forced to perticipate in it.
My point is: do not conclude all of israel as fascists, rascist, anti palestine or what ever! know that as there is different believes in the world, so is an Israel! and Iran! and Syria!

I think we all try to do our best to not stereotype all Israeli's (or any citizenry) living within the oppressive military state of Israel as all fascistic or right-wing. Revolutionary leftists understand that power dynamics are a class issue, and the cultural context matters as well. Don't think we dislike Israeli people; just look at the positive responses from (at least most of) us to the protests and strikes going on in Israel now.
Concerning what you said, the religious part is an important thing, but you must remind people of faith that God is supposed to be there for every one of his children, and not just for a chosen people. One does not have to give up the holy land to let others live in peace within it alongside you. Making some atheist rant about how religion is oppressive isn't going to convince anyone, but try to explain that this religious interpretation of territorial entitlement is simply used to reinforce ideas of cultural superiority and entitlement that justify the colonial exploitation of lesser peoples, which does not only happen in that area, but all over the world. Good luck in the army, and I hope you can maintain your dignity.

None of us believe that all Israeli's or Jews are Zionists (fascist/racist), etc. However, Zionism is a strong movement in Israel, and is NOT subject to the extremely religious, or what have you. Benyamin Netanyahu has been elected by your people, he is a Zionist, and is still garnering about 40% approval from the people. Which will easily boost back to 50% + when he woes the j14 protesters with some bullshit plan.
Which brings me to a further point: very few, if any, of the j14 protesters are concerned about Palestine. To be honest, that is a lot of people. Bomb Gaza? Not a word. Raise the price of Cheese? Mass protests. That is what it seems matters to Israelis, what is affecting them, not what they are doing to others.
As well, even the "left" in Israel is fairly complacent. There are no mass communist/socialist marches demanding that Israel free Palestine, there are nothing of the sort. Even the liberals and social democrats are quiet until something big happens and they take to the streets for a day or two.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm just not seeing anything.

What seems to you easy, is only a dream for me.
in the near future ( 10-20 years ) it is not possible that palestinians and israelies will share the same land, even if its only jerusalem or only part of it.
this is because of both side.
as long as Hammas and their budys exist and as long as the government in Israel is right, we will not get anywhere.

It doesn't really matter. I can understand why most Americans would have wanted an Afghani invasion, but that doesn't mean that I respect it.

We don't hate Israeli's. We know that among them there are leftists working to disestablish imperialism. We are just against Israeli imperialism much in the same way that we are against American or European imperialism without hating Americans or Europeans.

I am concerned that Bibi will shit on our face or that he will wate till september when Palestine is going to declaire independence and then no one will care about the protests.
As I said, since the 90's the left has gotten week.
there are still protests that you dont hear about much out of Israel.
I have spent nights at the tent city and I have been to the big protests.
I know what is going on under the surfece.
the left is using this protest to get rid of the corrent government cause it is the cause for the social enequality and because its a way to make the left strong again and finaly bring the left back to the control which will aventually lead to renagotiation with palestine.
If right now there will be free palestine protests ( like there are many ) in israel a lot of right winged people who are protesting in the corrent strugle will stop protesting and the government will ignore what is going on because they will have proof that this protests are just in order to get rid of them.
They know its coming and they are scared! we are getting close to peace and im sorry to say all the boycotts and whatever people are doing abrod is not helping palestine at all ( exept donation etc ).
