Not surprising seeing as the BBC is a government-owned company.

Oh, I wasn't surprised by the woman's response and attempt to shift the direction of the conversation, I'm just amused at how she handled it.

Bloody horrid interview, and on top of the sky type interview technique she can't even get his blooming nameright. 1st time she calls him Darkus How, then Markus How twice his name is Darkus Howe (pronounced Howee). He's been a campaigner for human rights since I was a kid, channel 4 (I think)gave him a series when I was a youth and they still wheel him out now n then. Didn't always agree with him but he always came across as a decent bloke not deserving of that level of shite from the BBC.

I think that it has more to do with the BBC's status as a bastion of the establishment than of being government-owned. They've never shown any more inclination to spout a government line, Pravda-style, than any other media corporation (which is to say, they do it quite a lot, but not unconditionally). If anything, I'd say that their reaction is an indicator of the extent to which these riots are percieved as not merely a challenge to the government or even the state, but as a challenge to the political and economic order as such.
