View Full Version : Local Racist Place

This place is fairly local for me. It's a private club/Italian restaurant that makes sure no black or hispanic people can ever get in as employees, guests or especially members. A Mexican friend of mine who at the time his girlfriends family were members was told they could still come in as long as he wasn't with (she's his wife now btw.) A few of us were going to make some molotovs and burn it down back in high school but unfortunately as we were juveniles at the time we didn't. Here is their facebook page:

And their info:
311 Hazel Street
Reading, PA 19611-2054
(610) 375-3431
If you want to call/write them to let them know what you think of that. Or whatever. I'm certainly not advocating anyone do anything illegal.

Let's not have molotovs be the first option. That's what spray paint and bricks are for.

You can still call them and tell them what you think or mail them a letter - at least if you live in the US - for less than 50 cents.

True. And flooding their voice mail with what we think, including obscene language. I do wish we would have burned the place down when we were kids and couldn't have gotten much in the way of consequences. When people I knew mentioned going there I went off on them about how they shouldn't support such a place. A few I did get to cancel their membership.

Do you have any proof that it is discriminatory? I don't doubt your word, but I'm thinking you could use legal channels to inflict more pain on the owners than a few cans of spray paint and some bricks. Putting them out for good (I'm not sure what the penalties are for types of discrimination) is better than short-term damage.

It's a private club, so they are legally allowed to discriminate.

I would suggest doing a stand in. Get your local anti-racism group involved (if there is one) and just stand out the entrance for as long as you can, either with signs or just making people who go in uncomfortable (legally, of course). That's been done with a handful of places in my area (Australia... perhaps the legal circumstances there forbid any such action) to the point of people going out of business.

If the owners of this place are racists, would you really want to be a member, or worse, help make them money by working for them?
At the end of the day, what are you hoping to accomplish? There will still be racist clubs and employers, and ones who are more subtle about their racism. Personally, I think it's a waste of time and energy.
