View Full Version : What Should I eat? (RevLeft Makes a Decision for Me)

I'm trying to decide what to eat. I have boiled it down to two choices. Either I go to the store and buy some pasta, which is healthy and economical or I order some Jimmy Johns, which is not economical, but I don't have to go anywhere.

Thing is, I'm feeling lazy and I don't really feel like going to the store today. I would also have to handwash all the dishes because my dishwasher is broke. So maybe I should do the pasta tomorrow.

As you've boiled it down to two options, I think you're subconsciously craving pasta

(Not that I have the foggiest what these Jimmy Johns you speak of are...)

It's a sub chain that the IWW has been unionizing.

It's a sandwich shop that delivers to your house. Kind of a rip off, really, when you think about it.

Better than subway, imo. I too think subway is crap, but Jimmy Johns is pretty tasty, say, after going out drinking or something like that. In my area, they're open pretty late. Probably the best thing about them is that the bread is good.

hmm well now I guess the question is what sauce do you have to go with the pasta?

I love the Jimmy John's vegetarian sub with a shit-ton (yes, that's an SI measurement) of alfalfa sprouts on it.

So I vote Jimmy John's

Good question, I was just going to get a jar of something and get some ground beef to mix it with.

I'll take recommendations. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the jimmy johns tonight because I'm absolutely not down for going to the store, cleaning, and then cooking, but I'll definitely do it tomorrow.

EDIT: TO justify going against the vote, I'm counting the two "other" votes as votes for convenience, based on what people wrote...

Vietnamese subs! They are deli-cious and super cheap. You could get one in central florida for 3 dollar. It comes with cucumbers, roast pork, CILANTRO, carrots, bread, and sweet soy sauce based sauce. But, I don't think they deli-ver. So you're gonna have to find one in your volume (as opposed to area; cubed to include height).

Hungry Howies sells large pizzas for USD$5.55 with one toppingszzzzzzz(zee)

Jamaican patties

Latino restaurants tend to be cheap to as long as you don't got to the pretentious ones like the gloria (the overly entitled) estefan (I think it's called Bongos) one. The ones in my area serve dinners for 5-7 dollars. The portions are enough for 3 meals.

Also, you could make turkey picadillo at home. Get some oil and stir fry onions, cachucha peppers, and smashed garlic for a little. Then add 1-1.5 lbs of ground turkey. Let that cook till it has a light brown color. Add oregano, black pepper, salt, 2-3 laurel leaves, RAISINS and GREEN OLIVES. Add .5-1 cup of dry cooking wine and .5 cup of tomato sauce. Let that cook uncovered til most of the liquids dry up. It should look something similar to sloppy joes. Mix that with a little bit more rice than meat ratio. Eat it and think about how you went your entire life without eating this. This is soooooo good to taste it.

Plantain a la smashing hammer fist [platanos al punietaso] ni=nasal n~
Peel and chop plantains in 1 inch segments. Fry at medium til they are yellow and are soft on the inside. Take them out and let them cool off enough to handle. Smash them with a tea cup. Fry them at medium-high til they seem crispy. Take them out. Add salt or dip in olive oil, garlic, and lime dip.

Apple sauce

Korean fast food. I love bulgogi...soooooo good to taste it 2(dos).

Sample a variety of flavors at your local coldstone, marble slab, and jeremiah's for dessert. Don't buy any.

Buy cake mix for 90 something cents and bake a cake. Have a wonderful celebration with all of the next door peoples of the world.

Hells yeah! Unfortunately, the only place in town is closed for the summer. I've been there like three times in the middle of the day since classes ended in May, and they've been closed every time. I just hope it's not closed for good, cuz that means I'd have to drive half an hour into the big city to get one. Small college town living and all...

Are you a vegetarian? Because otherwise I would recommend the pasta, which is cheaper and means you can have (more?) meat.

No I'm not vegetarian.

Last night I went with the JJ, so it's pasta night tonight. How about turning this thread to jar sauce recommendations?

Dishwasher? *sniff sniff* I smell bourgeois.

Seriously though, I recommend makaroni po-flotski with any veggies you deem appropriate. Onions, peas and tomatos are good.

Vietnamese subs!
There's a Vietnamese place down the street from me that I've been meaning to try. I think I'm going to next payday. If it's anything like Thai, I will be in love :tt1:

Random suggestion, but if you've never had it, try middle-eastern food. When I lived in the Rust-Belt, there was a fantastic Lebanese restaurant* in my town. It rules!

* I've noticed some places that serve Middle-Eastern call it "Mediterranean" just so people will come in, probably thinking it's Italian or Greek. Sometimes you have to investigate the menu...

This is the most delicious post I've seen in a while, if such a thing exists.
