Comrades, I have this fear that if/when the U.S. becomes a fascist dictatorship, some private corporation(s), be it Comcast, Google or Facebook, will give the government our information. Plausible? How can we protect ourselves in the meantime, or is it a hopeless endeavor?

I don't think you have much to worry about. There aren't any politicians fascist enough to do that (although I don't know for sure).

I don't know, but if you are concerned about comms, here is some info that should be very helpful:

The case United States v. Boucher demonstrated the very high level of effectiveness of PGP encryption. Although Boucher turned out to be pedophile that need serious help, the point is that the gov was completely unable to decrypt the encrypted info in question on his HDD and without his passcode to decrypt the data they were helpless to find the evidence although he did reveal the passcode later and was convicted.

All comrades should use this!

Torrent search e-books for computer security, there is a wealth free of information on the topic.

A much better alternative would be to create a hidden file system or Hidden OS using TrueCrypt. It gives you the added benefit of plausible deniability. It's what I personally use and would recommend.

With PGP, the end result is that he had to give the password. However, if the government doesn't know there is a secret encrypted file container inside a TrueCrypt folder, than you are totally safe because they can't get you to give up a password you don't already own.

Well, in Canada our 'fascist dictator' is passing a law that makes it completely legal to spy on any civilian in the country through phone tapping, reading their e-mails, searching through their browser history, etc. without a warrant. I'd be surprised if something like this wasn't going on in America as well.
