I never really looked into Karl Kautsky, but I'm curious what made Kautsky stand out in Marxism.

I understand he is considered to be the major theoretician of Orthodox Marxism after Engel's death, so I have a very brief idea of his ideology, but I really have no idea of what his doctrines stated.

Could someone post links to basic Kautskyite texts or give me a brief summary of Kautskyite theory?

Kautsky the Marxist and not Kautsky the renegade was the one who outlined (albeit briefly) a political strategy opposed to reform coalitions and mass strike and other "direct action" fetish illusions of competently posing the question of power. He was also the first Marxist to distinguish between a non-revolutionary period and a revolutionary period, outlining four criteria making up the latter. He was also the first theorist to "outline" imperialism, long before Lenin, and Hilferding, and even before the liberal Hobson.

Not all his key works are found here, though:

The Erfurt Program
Trade Unions and Socialism
The Social Revolution
Intellectuals and Workers
The Road to Power
Sects and Class Parties

Are the only key works listed on MIA. There are others, such as his refutations of Bernstein, the first and most complete take on "the state and revolution," and articles on the 1905 Russian Revolution.
