I was reading another forum with a list of historic blunders, and someone mentioned Order No. 1. What was this order and how did it relate to the Russian Revolution?

It was the first decree of the Petrograd Soviet, the order instructed soldiers and sailors to obey their officers and the Provisional Government only if their orders did not contradict the decrees of the Petrograd Soviet. It also called on units to elect representatives to the Soviet and for each unit to elect a committee which would run the unit. All weapons were to be handed over to these committees.
It was incredibly important as it set up an antagonistic relationship between the Soviets and the Provisional Government, Trotsky thought it was the most important document from the entire February Revolution.
