In the Year 2012

[email protected], 8-11

The year 2011 already sounds futuristic enough but now we are able to provide for you a unique vantage point in our current age from which you can pierce the veil of time to peer without limit all the way through to...

The Year 2012.

In the Year 2012 people in this advanced time of human existence will have found a way to become their own explorers, but in knowing ways, without having previously been to a place before. While in the here-and-now we consider it normal to have to cover new ground several times to get a "feel" for a new area, by the year 2012 people will travel and explore confidently in forward, direct paths of motion while possessing a foreknowledge of their new surroundings and with an uncanny ease over matters of direction and distance.

If inquired about this they will tell you of a futuristic kind of geometrical-based communication in which only lines and symbols are used to convey information about virtually any location on the face of the earth. Incredibly enough these lines and symbols will depict a kind of representation of real outside world features, to such a degree of accuracy that anyone who knows how to interpret such symbols will not need to have been to a place beforehand in order to directly arrive at it.

We caution the reader to not dismiss this prognostication too readily, for as confoundingly unbelievable as it is we have taken pains to procure this fantastic glimpse into the future only through great travails and at great risk to our own well-being. It is only because of our already advanced technological means here in the year 2011 that we have made it possible to discern even greater technological feats around the corner for the benefit of all humanity.

We are pleased to make these predictions possible for the common good, and will continue with a number of additional ones on these pages.

Our sources inform us that, not long from now, there will be a way of producing melodious tones without the need for playing musical instruments. Instead, while a person may be standing in one location, a set of two unobtrusive plain wooden boxes will be placed nearby this person. Then, with some minor adjustments to an accompanying control panel, sounds of all kinds will issue forth in the most disembodied way, as if merely hinted at from within a nocturnal dream. The standing person, if not informed as to the presence of the two wooden boxes, would be both astounded and dumbfounded as to how a full orchestra could be issuing forth music without even being present. Only after finally overcoming this surprise and adjusting to this new futuristic reality would one eventually investigate the boxes sourcing the aural emanation from which one will then derive emotional and aesthetic pleasures at any time of one's liking.

Again we will ask the reader to give us the benefit of the doubt on this matter and accept these informings with an open, if understandably skeptical, mind. If your credulity allows you to continue at this time we will forge ahead with another insight that, as far as we know, is known only to us, and now to you.

All of human history is inescapably colored with an underlying narrative subtext of climate and weather. Nature has proved to be a decisive force at key moments in human affairs, since everyone's everyday existence is necessarily in part about remaining on awares of the comings and goings of natural events, if only to retain a certain degree of preparedness for the ever-changing conditions around oneself.

Now, within about a year's time, human ability will soon rocket forth to attain an almost incomprehensible mastery over the elements themselves. While even a child today has sense enough to take shelter in interior building structures to escape the more inhospitable weather conditions outside, humanity will presently experience an improvement still greater than this ability to instantaneously change one's environmental surroundings.

In the Year 2012 people will demonstrate a way to -- impossibly enough -- actually change the very temperature of the air around them, without any benefit from the sun. We can only imagine the profound envy our forebears would most likely feel about this turn of events we are lucky enough to be about to experience. Soon, through an exercise of sheer will alone, there will be means by which we will be able to add warmth into the atmosphere itself -- again, without dependence of any sort on the sun's energy. We anticipate people being able to wear less and more comfortable clothing at their leisure, independent of temperature conditions outside at any given moment. The more adventurous among us may even elect to try going without clothing of any sort, for some intervals, thanks to this soon-to-be stunning achievement of human ingenuity. We will convivially share that there are some within our own group who have spoken about doing this when the time comes, so as to verify it for themselves.

While we have no way of making a scientifically exhaustive study of this development upon its arrival we do ask you, the reader, to please share your own experiences of this self-actuated temperature altering ability once you have done it yourself. Your reports will be appreciated by all of us here.

Finally, if your patience has not been fully pushed to its limits by now, we ask your indulgence for one final educated prediction that will be reality by the time of the dawning of the futuristic Year of 2012. At this time we ask you to take a personal inventory of your own faculties and sensibilities, and to possibly retire and return to this account if you should find yourself the least bit tried at this point.

Onward, then, to a concluding description for the continuing tale of humanity's dramatic storyline up through the present day and into the time-to-be. We are sharing here a report that, upon our learning of it, elicited a profound sense of bottled excitement among the numbers of our group for what the implications of the information suggested. Once realized we feel that this development, among all the others, has the most potential for ushering in a new state of being that has heretofore been unknown and even unimaginable to most.

What we have become privy to is the future usage of a type of earth-based substance that, after thorough manipulation, becomes as stone itself, impermeable to physical influence and well resisting innumerable seasons of the most severe weather and climate conditions. The mind boggles, of course, at what human ingenuity might purpose this substance towards -- it would be comparable to commanding the stones themselves to do our bidding, in configurations and structures that conform to our very whims, utilities, and pleasures.

At the risk of sounding impertinent we will dare to suggest here, in our still-unfuturistic year of 2011, that such a technique may be combined with the heat-producing measure mentioned above to somehow enclose a select portion of nature's atmosphere, effectively exerting a masterful physical control over a prescribed domain. We apologize for such vagueness here but also remind that no one is able to make predictions of any considerable precision when so many possibilities would immediately abound upon the initial moment of inception.

Plants and animals alike have only known the earth underneath them, but with this advancement for us will come a new era of directing the very stuff of land itself in new and unforeseen ways. Doubtless some will even become personally known by great numbers for their dedication and invention with such new and unique feats thereof -- we wait with bated breath to witness such inevitabilities and hope the reader shares this sense of anticipation with us.

In my understanding that while the Mayan Long Count calender ends on 22 December, 2012, nothing really is scheduled to occur after this. There are no prophecies. Mayan people today don't have any 2012 prophecies. The baktun ends, that's all.

Joking. Seriously though, I don't understand. The post sounds interesting but could you clarify.

edit: I guess I'm just a bit slow today, it all becomes clear. Huizapochtitl smiles upon me.

Uh, yeah, I'll just get my eraser out here and rub it against the screen....

(Actually I can think of no better way to take credit for my own work.)

Right, well, as Lenina suggested, that's why blogs were invented. Anyway, I edited it for you.

Ehhhh, thanks, but my cultural style in this piece is more 19th-century-scientific-revelatory.

This was entertaining enough, but I think would have been better suited as a blog entry unless I'm missing something.
