View Full Version : I had horrible night..

So I was up at around 1:00 AM this night reading Revleft, when I fell off my chair and got knocked out. I woke up with two policemen in front of me (I had no idea what was going on) I was screaming at them "What do you want! What do you want!" while I was on the floor.. then I passed out again.. Next thing I know there are 10-15 people in my house. There were 5 cop cars outside, and an ambulance.. They dragged me into the ambulance and put me on an IV, then I heard them say I had a seizure. So my dad was at the hospital with me and I got a catscan, and blood tests and shit.
I am home now, and I think I am fine. My father called 911, when I was slamming my head on the keyboard and falling over then rolling on the floor. This was my first seizure, and I hope I don't get another. My tongue was bleeding all over since I bit it really hard.

I hope you are ok. Do you know what caused the seizure?

did you before ever had that other people said to you that you where "gone" for an moment and you didnt know what they where talking about? could be really short moments where to other people you look very distant/unresponsive.
if so you might have epilepsy.

That doesn't sound very fun :(. Being on the computer at 1 am isn't very healthy for epileptic people.

Really sorry for you man... It could indeed be just this once, doesn't have to mean it will happen again.
Did you spend a lot of time in front of the screen that day?

I was going to make a joke about revleft and seizures but decided it would be in bad taste.
Hope everything goes well for you Man.

I'm no expert, but I have heard of this sort of thing happening as a one off. I had a buddy once who, on the morning that a bunch of us were supposed to head out in my van to a big festival style concert, just never showed up. We paged him over and over (yes, it was that long ago) and called his house but couldn't get any answer. Turns out, for no apparent reason he'd had a seizure in the shower that morning. I'm still not sure if his doctors ever figured out what caused it, but I suspect it may have been some medication he was taking... He was on midrin for his migraines, and I swear I heard someplace that it was found to cause that sort of thing. Anyway, the point is sometimes these things take place once in a lifetime and doctors have no idea why.

I have epilepsy, and I first found out about it in a situation similar to yours. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask, I have suffered from it for around 3 years. It's an awful condition because it messes with your head, sometimes I wake up and I am not fully self-aware/conscious, and other times I have a seizure and sleep constantly for at least a day. There are also long-term effects that it has on your personality that will stay long after the seizures stop.
Here is my type of epilepsy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontal_lobe_epilepsy
And here is the specific sub-type: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autosomal_dominant_nocturnal_frontal_lobe_epilepsy
And praxis1966, that's interesting because I often have hallucinations while in the shower (never a seizure though), and I believe it's linked to my epilepsy.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing about a link between epilepsy and hallucinations somewhere along the line. I could probably dig up some research if I tried but I'm too lazy atm.
In my friend's particular case, I had to wonder whether it was the midrin or the migraines. There are several different types of migraines (I myself suffer from vascular migraines), and I can't help but wonder if there's some kind of interaction between the two conditions... I mean, we are talking about the same area of the body after all.

But why do cops seem to come before medics in case of an epilepsy attack?

Welcome to America, where Pizza arrives sooner than an ambulance.

It's the simple logistics of geographic proximity and the 911 procedure Dany mentioned. Cops respond to all 911 calls because they have some low end first aid training. Plus since they're out on the prowl patrolling and ambulances generally are just sitting in a depot somewhere, odds are the cop is going to be closer to your specific location when the call comes in...

I hope you get well.

Maybe you can find a reason in the article.
I thought the function of cops in a situation were you call an ambulance is to excort the ambulance if there is much traffic, else no need.

Don´t you call a central, where you then can "order" an ambulance, some cops, or some firefighters?

Yeah, but they send cops to just about every call regardless of what it is AFAIK.

They already know. I have a huge 3'x5' soviet flag hanging in my room and and a 2'x1' poster of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin for each person, Marx and Engels are on the right side of the room, and Lenin and Stalin are on the other. I also have a Che Guevara doll sitting on my window sill. My desk has all three volumes of Capital, The Communist Manifesto, State and Revolution, Conquest of Bread, Anarchism and other essays, and multiple other essays.

Epic.
*Cops respond to emergency call*
"Hello maam, sir, we are responding to a 911 call from this household."
"Why yes officers he's upstairs, he just fell over onto the ground!"
"Alright Jim, let's check this out."
*Officers run upstairs, push open door*
"Holy shit Jim... It's for real."
"I don't know what to do Ted... I don't know what to do... they're all... looking at me."
"Call more people, this is out of our league."
