Nazi Zombies! Where have we heard that before? *coughs*CallOfDuty*coughs*

Anywho. It's about a group of students who decide to spend Easter break at Øksfjord in Norway. As the students are partying, they are greeted by a hiker. He explains to the students that during WW2, a force of Einsatzgruppen (Nazi Death Squads) occupied the area and tortured the locals. Near the end of the war, the squad tried to loot the town of it's valuables. But the locals fought back and killed them. The few that survived were chased into the cold mountains and presumably died. We learn later on that they did indeed die. But they didn't stay dead. They come back as zombies and began their murderous rampage. The students do all they can to survive against the nazi zombies.

This film interested me purely for the concept. I mean, zombies are scary. But zombies that were once nazis, one of the most evil groups in the world?! Thats just messed up!

I learned that Dead Snow was infact the inspiration for the zombie nazis in the Call of Duty games. and trust me when I say I ENJOY every shot I take at those b*****ds!

I'd check it out when you got time. It looks like a pretty awesome movie.

If you're into campy gore, I think you'll love it. I was totally into it even though it was your typical young people go to a cabin in the woods plot line.
If I have one negative thing to say about the film (potential spoiler alert) it's that the reason given for nazi zombies existing is kind of weak and the zombi nazis could have been more frightening.

True. The idea of zombies who were once nazis is a terrifying concept on it's own. Though it was claimed this movie was a "zomedy". A comedy that involves zombies. I think thats where the went wrong.

A zomedy can be good. Look at Shaun of the Dead and that ilk.

I liked Shaun of the Dead. and I LOVED Zombieland. It's just I think making nazi zombies the centre of a zomedy seems...weird. It would of been MUCH scarier as a general horror movie than a comedy.

Or at the very least a parody of the old b-horror movies.

I heard of it before in Oasis of the Dead, Zombie Lake, Shock Waves and Outpost. It's old hat.

If they'd tried to make Dead Snow a serious film, it wouldn't have the cult status it has (even though it's not big.) It would have been a lot worse than it already is.

I thought it was pretty good. There's even a commie reference. One guy is fighting the Zombies with a hammer and sickle and there's like a pose shot of him putting them together in the traditional commie way. Gory fun if you ask me

My only issue is that the zombies were too smart. They planned, and used weapons and they just seemed like regular humans who had a terrible skin condition and anger management issues. But it was very fun, a cheesy cult gore fest.

Its was a pretty good movie, lots of subtle humor and gore. Fun stuff. Is definitely one of the better zombie films I've seen recently.
