Do you guys think they should be banned? I for one believe they are exploitative of children and can be detrimental for the proper development of children, due to the constant competition, as well as the forced objectification. What are your opinions?

Of coarse they should be banned because of the obvious detrimental effect they have on the children and correct me if im wrong there are cash prizes in some and other revenue in these competitions so effectively the child become's a commodity of some sort.

They disgust me, to be honest. I feel really sorry for the kids too, who don't realise how they are being exploited by their parents. Also bringing a kid up to think their image is all that matters is just sickening.

Of course they should be banned, and it's worth asking whether or not the kids' parents should be allowed to keep them.

I'm not sure whether or not we should outlaw adult beauty pageants.

Alright good. I just asked because it was on tv and it made me sick, so I'm glad I'm not alone on this. And yes often times there are prizes but I suppose I didn't even make that link. Makes it even worse..

Not only should they be banned but the children should be removed from the homes of parents who think it is a wonderful idea to shove their children into such things. I find it horrific and disgusting that certain people feel the need to live their lives through their children by manipulation, threats, etc.

I find it worrying that people here are so intent on 'banning' certain practices. However, if there's something that I would like to see shut down it's this, it's just completely sick.

We should ban sexual assault, slavery, and the private ownership of capital. There's all sorts of practices we should ban.

Sexual assault and slavery is already 'banned' in most cases.

I only recognize workers' collective rule after the capitalist hegemony has been disestablished. What people on this forum declare "we should ban" seems backwater to me. However, you will note I said "certain practices"; there are plenty of practices in/of capitalism I would like to see shut down independently of it. I'm just not that powerhungry, personally.

A mother (or father) treating one of its children like a toy to partake in judgemental games for his/her own amusement and satisfaction/ego-boost should be regarded as a form of child abuse and a clear hint that someone might not be a very good parent.

Yes, definately. For all of the above reasons.

If I weren't an Anarchist I would suggest the parents would be publicly flogged too.

Of course they should be banned. There's few things more vile than exploiting children for monetary gain.

I can't exactly picture a 'little miss soviet' beauty pageant occurring in a post revolutionary society, and I could very well see why. The encouragement of institutions which foster an environment of objectification, especially among children, is most deplorable and more than worthy of opposition.

I heard something about the parents also giving the girl plastic surgery and botox.

That was actually an oax led by Morning shows and others so that they could have a good sensationalist story and make tons of money on ratings and whatnot. The mom used a fake name, and she got a good load of cash. It might be good as a wake up call to how the Western world is working nowadays, but it's still child exploitation. I find it extremely vile how people have the necessity to discard of their honor and their child's for a quick buck. I doubt she asked for permission from her daughter.

They're pretty sickening and sexualize prepubescent children. Ban them.

I find it disgusting. I've watched the programmes such things and it seems to me the parents are pressuring their young girls to be this way. Like it's something these kids must do.

Children should be allowed to be children. They shoulden't be pressured into causes or pageants or whatever!

Absolutely disgusting. Yet another reason why modern society must go.

Those shows are just sickening. And you can see a lot of the little girls resist it. They cry and scream that they don't want to but the parents don't listen. They force them anyways. What's even more sickening is I've seen them being forced to wear stuff that's way too sexual for children that age (there was a 5 year old in a fucking pointy bra. What the FUCK?)

I wonder what future societies will make of these pageants when they look back on them?

They put them on diets as well so they turn out anorexic looking. The parents should be sent to reeducation camps or something.

How can anyone give a 2-year-old a spray tan, cake 10 pounds of makeup onto her face, put her in a bikini and make her flail around on stage and not call it sexualization of a little girl? Why isn't there a law against this shit yet?

In any sane society that would be banned. It's an elaborate and profitable form of child abuse, absolutely brimming with sexist brainwashing as well. Saddens me that some people tend to glorify it now.
