So, when I try to log into facebook the site appears in this format. I've deleted my entire cache + cookies and tried again, nothing, doubt it would be security settings or connection. Any ideas?

Are other similar websites working? (ie. graphic-intensive interactive websites)

If so, it'll probably resolve itself. If not, it might be a connection problem, but that'll probably resolve itself too.

Is it just that browser?

All browsers on this computer, on other computers it works fine. And yea, it's the only site not working...

Try re-installing the browser:)

Some days I have that exact same problem. Come the next day (or later the same say), it seems to be back working again. Without me doing anything. So I can only suggest that you...just sit and wait for it to sort itself out...I guess...

Exactly the same? It's been like this for a day now, and I've come to realise that Facebook is remarkably uncontactable...

FB has a lot of glitches. Chalk it up to that.

Like La Sombra, I've had the exact same problem myself. Generally, if I refresh the page several times whatever site I'm looking at eventually loads properly. What I'm thinking, though, is that since it's been going on all day is one of two things.

Either a) there's something hinky with your browser, potentially caused by a virus or other anomalous data corruption (which can happen; I once had the IP stacks on a work machine I used just get completely corrupted and the only thing that solved the problem was removing the NIC from Device Manager in Win2K and rebooting... allowing Windows to auto-rec the hardware and reinstall the driver... and to this day I still have no idea what caused the problem). Or, b) there's something funky going on in your data stream.

In the case of a), running a full virus scan and then possibly reinstalling your browser(s) may be the only solution, but I'd try something else first. Go back into your browsers' tools (if you use multiple browsers you'll have to do this for each individually since they all create their own temp folders IIRC). Delete your browsing history again, but this time check to make sure that you're deleting all the temporary internet files as well... It could be that you didn't have this option box ticked before so the only things you deleted were cookies, which wouldn't do you any good. I'd only bother with the virus/reinstall option after you've done this since reinstalls are a hassle and a full virus scan will take ages if you have any kind of decently sized HD.

If none of that works, then it could be b) in that you're getting data loss somewhere along the line... Pretty much the only way to determine that is to call your ISP and describe the problem to them... Their tech support people should have some simple diagnostics they can run on the lines while they have you on the phone to tell you whether this is the case. I mean, you could try pinging the default gateway (assuming you're not behind a router) or running a trace route to whatever random website (google, yahoo, anything really) to see if the commands time out or take excessively long, but I have the feeling that these won't tell you anything. Your machine is obviously hitting the 'net, otherwise it wouldn't return any website data at all causing you to get 404ed... which is what makes me suspect that there could be trouble on your ISP's end elsewhere and it's something that they'll have to fix on their end.

EDIT: You may want to check the advanced browsing options and see if there's a "text only" option that's been changed somewhere... Who knows? It could be something as stupid as that, lol.

I'm not sure if this helps but if other people log in on my computer their accounts work fine.

Is it possible you could have been banned from Facebook?

I don't think so. If you are banned you can't access your account. I can still access my account, but its format is fucked.

I think that's happened to me before, I just refreshed the page and it was fine.

My bet is that it could be something to do with your internet bandwidth or internet download speed, does it always do that when you log on?

I have absolutely no problems with any websites at all anywhere, and can use other peoples accounts on my pc with the same connection. The problem seems to be my profile on my pc. which is fucking annoying and wird

I had a similar problem once, try this: go to the facebook wikipedia page, click on the link to facebook on the right side of the screen, then sign in. I have no idea why, but this worked for me.

Right, well that makes me think that you may need to do another delete of the history and whatnot. See, when they're loading their own pages, that's actually loading a different URL... One not already in your internet temp files. If all you did was delete your cookies, this wouldn't have affected your temp files at all. The two are completely different things.

Alright, strangely. I managed to fix the problem by making sure that the date and time on Windows was exact. I can't quite imagine how that would affect a website in this way, but apparently it did. Thanks for your help guys, appreciate it.

Believe it or not, the clock on your computer affects a whole bunch of shit... It's not just about keeping time. I could look in my old CompTIA A+ textbook and tell you exactly why, but meh. Good to know you got it sorted, though. :)
