UNAC is trying to make the Saturday May 19 demo a mass, peaceful demonstration. Hopefully as things come closer a framework based on the Pittsburgh Principles from the 2009 G20 protests will come together:

Not sure what the more anarchist flavored ones will be like. Depending on what's what at that time, I may or may not be in Chicago for the 19th.

If you get caught with a helmet anywhere in Illinois within a month of the summit you'll be visiting a secret detention center somewhere.
Edit- actually this isn't usually the case- the pitts demo security stuff got put up overnight

Running shoes? No, no, no! If they've got horses and vehicles, you need steel-toe boots. There are some good lightweight pairs out there (Wal-Mart has their brand of basic steels for a decent price). Besides, if you have to defend yourself, I'd rather plant a steel toe in a cop's crotch than the flimsy pleather upper of a running shoe.

I'd do a road trip from Portland area but it's over two thousand miles. I wouldn't want to drive that unless I was moving back over to the east and I doubt the vehicle would make it halfway. How much are plane tickets? Who has hook-ups with it? Anyone in the Portland area actually want to make it a road trip?

The steel toed boots might assist in the removal of your toes.

Only if your toes get run over by a horse or vehicle. In a situation like that, thought, it's better to have had steel-toes on; they make it a lot easier for the doctors to repair your foot if the toes are cut off, as opposed to being crushed. Also, They make steel-toe boots and shoes really lightweight now, so you can run in them pretty well, to say nothing of defending yourself with them, if necessary.

If anyone is interested in getting a cheap motel room, finding a church to stay at, tent city or even sleeping in the landscaping somewhere let me know. It's obviously way in advance but early headcounts are awesome anyways. Thanks.
Also for relative security reasons it should probably be limited to long time users of the forum or people I've already marched/mingled with. I'd still like to meet up with everyone else though!

I would love to go but there are many problems in my way and I got alot of questions:lol:
Is it possible to get a pass port without your parents knowing?
Can you go to jail for going to a protest?
what I mean is I've been watching stuff about G20 Toronto and people were detained... does that lead to conviction and going to jail?
If so, what would happen to a Canadian citizen?
This may be a stupid question but is it safe to travel to another country for this protest by yourself?

You can get a passport without your parents knowing if your over 18 that is. The other stuff I'm not sure off. Except the last question, I don't see why it wouldn't be as safe as just about anything else. This is the U.S, not Haiti or something.

Well, Chicago is a really rough city. As long as you know where you are and keep your head on straight, you'll be fine. Last time I went, there seemed to be an increase of homeless people. However, being that it's the G8, they might "clean up" that problem (push them off the popular/main streets for a few days...)

Yes, you can go to jail for going to a protest. Don't listen to bullshit about cops only arresting you if they see you doing something illegal, cops routinely perform sweeps where anyone and everyone unlucky enough to get caught will be detained. These are typically only done when a protest develops to the point of property damage (or the threat of it), but this is G8, so it probably will.
I'm not too familiar with non-citizens being arrested, it has the potential to either be helpful in that the cops may just let you go cause they don't feel like dealing with the bullshit, or it could make things worse because you have to deal with the bullshit. But yes, it's safe in that you're not gonna disappear nor are you gonna be imprisoned unless they can pin something on you. And even then, you are a minor and a foreign citizen, you should be okay. If you do end up arrested, your parents will almost certainly have to find out. However, it's not safe in that there's a possibility you could be coughing up pepper spray, nursing a concussion, and mending bones.
And being detained is not the same as being arrested. I mean, technically you are "under arrest" in that you are not free to leave, but you're not gonna get booked and charged unless there's something they can pin on you. And you're definitely not gonna get imprisoned (as in sentenced) unless you're convicted of something pretty serious.
You'll probably be alright as far as serious legal ramifications go, it's G8, there's gonna be plenty of adult U.S. citizens there the cops can fuck over with considerably less paperwork, just make sure you know the risks and that it's very possible your parents may find out

Haha, I know, TERROR! Just figured that may be a concern given that I'm assuming you're a minor. I'm having trouble finding specific state laws regarding phone calls, but a couple different sources (http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=arrested+phone+call+right+state+law+illinois&pbx=1&oq=arrested+phone+call+right+state+law+illinois&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=13283l16865l0l17097l19l14l0l0l0l1l984l9795l 6-11l11l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=81eba942b626e508&biw=800&bih=509) seem to indicate that forbidding you from making phone calls violates your right to legal representation. I don't mean to sound so dramatic, cause in all honesty, unless things go absolutely apeshit and you're in the middle of it and get caught, you should be fine.

Yes you do. You have full constitutional and legal protection, though cops and employers often try to obscure this. Also, apparently if you are arrested the officer is required (http://www.lawcollective.org/article.php?id=185) to notify your consulate.
