I think someone should post this on Stormfront...:)

The current white supremacist response is that the mixture of human and neanderthal is what made them the master race. Also art just became reality.

Overrun is a very strange way of saying thousands of years of migration and growth and competition for resources. The language used in the article seems like a more sensationalized way of saying what we already know and has been known for years. Invasion is the other phrase I have a problem with since it suggests national borders and ownership of land. Swarms is another one I've seen plenty of other reports which say that as few as 100 humans left Africa settling in the middle east and Turkey before spreading out east and west, it was all a very slow process where as the article makes it seem like an army of humans planned and organized themselves to wipe out the neanderthals.

slow news week? :p

Was there a degree of inbreeding too?

The Daily Express ran this story under the headline of something like 'mass migration has always been a problem' which had the strange result of them positing themselves as neanderthals (yet cultured and civilised) and them darn eastern europeans as humans (yet plebian and barbaric).

It wouldn't surprise me if Stormfronters were part neanderthal :D

If your heritage is non-African, you are part Neanderthal, according to a new study in the July issue of Molecular Biology and Evolution. Discovery News has been reporting on human/Neanderthal interbreeding for some time now, so this latest research confirms earlier findings.

Damian Labuda of the University of Montreal's Department of Pediatrics and the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center conducted the study with his colleagues. They determined some of the human X chromosome originates from Neanderthals, but only in people of non-African heritage.

"This confirms recent findings suggesting that the two populations interbred," Labuda was quoted as saying in a press release. His team believes most, if not all, of the interbreeding took place in the Middle East, while modern humans were migrating out of Africa and spreading to other regions.

That's one of the most unscientific shit I've ever heard in my life.

Those SF types surely are fucking dumb. Even by the standards of reactionary racial theories, this kind of claim makes no sense what-so-ever. It's like saying the mixture of the human and the chimpanzee can potentially be superior to humans themselves.

It was just a joke implying that Stormfronters are stupid :)

yeah that seems to be a fairly recent discovery. For years they said it was impossible for homo sapiens and Neanderthals to breed. So I think it's important to remember that what we think we know as fact are still just theories. But yeah I think it's entirely possible considering the DNA evidence and the fact that they lived side by side for 16,000 years. Homo sapiens arriving 40,000 years ago and Neanderthals becoming extinct 24,000 years ago (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/5343266.stm). Coming to the conclusion that although they were in the same place at the same time for that period of time but never interacted except in competition like some kind of total war seems unlikely. Perhaps that conclusion was reached to justify "human nature"?

Any excuse, eh? :)

That assumes that Neanderthals were stupid. They had language, lived in communities, cared for their sick and elderly, made tools and weapons, had larger brains.

You're taking this way too seriously. It was a joke, I was not stating it as a fact.

Neanderthals are commonly associated with primitive, less developed people; that's why I said it.

If any part-Neanderthals were offended by the joke, I apologise.

The general consensus among scientists is that Neanderthals were generally speaking less intelligent than modern humans, but were physically stronger than us. A slightly larger brain volume just by itself doesn't mean anything at all. There are many other parameters, such as the amount of sulci in the neocortex, the number of neuron connections, brain-to-body mass ratio (Neanderthals were generally heavier than modern humans) etc.

agreed, yet homo sapiens being more intelligent than Neanderthals does not mean that Neanderthals were unintelligent creatures and the gap between the two species was that vast. Homo Erectus on the other hand was far less advanced than homo sapiens and neanderthals.

I've seen it suggested that one of the advantages that homo sapiens had was the development of a shared culture and unwritten history meaning that they could network over a wider area and share information more easily. The Neanderthals larger size may have also been a part of their downfall as they required extra energy meaning a higher calorie intake. Meaning that when food was scarce they died out much quicker.

Apparently modern humans were also more creative thinkers. See for instance the documentary series Walking with Cavemen.

Intelligence isn't just quantitative (e.g. raw processing power), it's also qualitative (depth of thought, creativity, artistic sense etc).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking_With_Cavemen

The fourth episode talks about the mental evolution of the humanity, as opposed to the physical in previous ones. First we leap forward to a time when Homo heidelbergensis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_heidelbergensis) is living in Great Britain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Britain). H. Heidelbergensis is depicted as intelligent and sensitive but lacking in the ability to comprehend an afterlife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterlife), or anything that isn't in the "here and now".

Next, the episode shows a life of a clan Homo neanderthalensis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_neanderthalensis), how they lived and hunted, including the mighty mammoth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammoth) during the latest Ice age (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_age). They are intelligent but still lack the imagination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagination) of modern humans.

Finally, we see modern Homo sapiens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_sapiens) (represented by Bushmen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushmen)) in Africa, who had to become imaginative and inventive to survive the long drought, and finally glimpse the cave painters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_painting) of Europe, who had "evolved" the idea of the afterlife and the supernatural, and who are now ready to start the human history as it is now known (and drive the Neanderthals to extinction).

BTW, Stormfront-type racists often think that although East Asians aren't less intelligent than whites in terms of raw processing power, unlike Black people who are less intelligent all around, we are less creative and original thinkers than whites. It's one of the standard racist beliefs among SF reactionaries.

I saw a documentary on TV a while back, about how Neanderthals weren't extinct and how some neanderthals were supposedly living in parts of Mongolia and Russia, made me lol :)
