What's your opinion on Moldova? I don't know much about Moldova, though I know the so called communist party is in control (I think it still is). What are the communists like? What do you think?

From what I understand, they are not really "Communists" but bourgeois welfare conservatives who play off of nostalgia and a desire to keep social benefits but are anything but revolutionary.

It's essentially the kind communist party that you find in every post-Soviet country. Its corrupt and its politics is built around nostalgia over the "good old days" (as earlier mentioned), combined with a fair share of nationalism. They're pro-EU and the former president's family is one of the richest in Moldova. When they were in power, they privatized large parts of the economy and continued the economic policies of the previous conservative government. The Economist consider them to be center-right, 'nuff said.

So basically they are just remnants from the good old days.

The Alliance for European Integration holds a majority and is the ruling coalition.

Not like it matters. The Communist Party is not communist. Like the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Moldova's "communist" party is in reality right-wing and reactionary.

So they're not really communists at all. Not suprising.

Still a bit of a bugger though...

I'm writing an article about Moldova now, for publication in a political journal.

In short, its a fucked up shit hole. Its the poorest country in Europe and people are forced to sell organs to make money.

But the most important fact, is that all of the territory of Moldova, east of the Dneister river, is actually part of an unrecognised country called Pridnestrovie, which still uses the old Soviet Flag, aligns itself with Russia, and for a while still maintained it was part of the USSR. Though is far from communist. Pridnestrovie has all of Moldovas industry and is reasonably successful, despite being under de facto economic embargo by the west. I mean, it's strange to think but this is an existing border control in Europe;
