So, I'm in highschool (or whatever the frick it's called in other countries), and I am planning to try out for the school team (I haven't before). So, for people that play soccer aka football, what kind of things could I do to get good at dribbling, shooting, etc?

Play.

No amount of practise dribbling around cones and shooting into empty goals beats the pressure and pace of a real game, whether it's with your friends or for a club.

Yea, just play as much as you can wherever you can. Joining a club when young is a good thing but remember that if you fail to get picked it isn't the end.

When I was younger all my friends played for the local under 13's team. They played against teams across the county and got to work with coachs etc. I didn't and only played for the fun of it in the park with them at lunch during school. No actual training at a younger age.

I was nothing amazing but I did get trials at Scottish first divison side Ross County:D

Depends on your level of commitment, but specialised activities can be way more helpful at specific skills than just a general game, espcially for young people. Barcelona training (apperently :P) has a lot of the piggy in the middle type games, for teaching fast, accurate passing and movement.

But yeah in general, just play loads and loads. Keep a ball in the garden on hand in the garden as well if you don't already (but i assume you do)

As oters ave said, just play. I was toss at basketball but I actually started playing with competitive teams it has helped step up my game, the sam applies, I think, in othr sports.
