Hi! this is my first time writing in the che guevara community, and i am thoroughly impressed with what i see! i've learnt so much about Che in the last hour!

However, i do have a question and i hope everybody and anybody can help...

i am doing an essay for my history class on che guevara, and i am debating the proposition, 'was che guevara a saint or sinner?' now, obviously, he was a saint, but in order for me to argue my case and win, i also need to know some bad stuf so that i can drown that away and justify it with all the good things he did!

I already know that he did kill people, but could anybody give me a bit more specific details? perhaps the way he kiled them, who he killed, how many, where? anything else that he did which people didn't approve of or would have considered a bit excessive?

i'm soo sorry to have to bring up the negative aspects of che in a community focusing on the his greatness - which i don't disput - but if you could help in anyway, it would be greatly appreciated! and as soon as i finish the essay, i would be happy to post it - which should be in about a week or so at the most!

thanks alot! Anna.

PS..sorry again, i feel so bad posting this!!! :o :(

hello Jimi-Ness, welcome to the community.

There was once a traitor within fidel and che's gurillia army. He would pretend his grandma was sick and leave and report the gurillia's positions to the enemy.

Fidel actually felt sorry about his sick grandmother and gave him money on his trips also, but the whole time this guy was tipping off the enemy.

che and fidel lost many friends because of bombing runs that the enemy did to them and abushes that happened to them.

so when this traitor was finally found guility, Fidel and everyone else sentenced him to die.

no one stepped up carry out the sentence except che, i read that che just walked up to him without saying anything and shot him in the face.

although che had a reason, shooting a guy point blank is pretty harsh.

other then that i cant really think of bad things he did. other then killing and not spending alot of time with his family, i can't think of anything he did that would be considered wrong.

Thanks lost soul!

Yea, I'm finding it really hard to locate books and articles where they are willing to explore his 'darker side', so in effect i don't really have much to go on...but still, i am finding small articles here and there on the net - having said that, they do only scratch the surface...they seems so intent on labeling him a devil that they just throw out random lines like, "he killed lots of people", without justifying themselves... ...everyone leader involved in a revolution kills people!

but ah well....gotta keep on looking... :) Thanks again!

i could not find information on the web to confirm this(because i didn't look :-), but i think he made the deal to put missles in cuba(on behalf of russia). And also he openly hated america, and i believe he did mention somewhere that he wouldn't mind using the missles on america if they provocated cuba.

i'm not 100% sure of the above, because i remember reading it, but a long time ago so i don't remember the source(so actually dont' trust it, unless you can confirm).

but if the above is true, he can be kind of blamed for the cuban missle crisis.

not sure if its a total bad thing, but it did pretty much make relations extremely bad with cuba and america. In turn america tried to destory cuba.

im sleepy and i'm just trying to help you...but seriously there is not much wrong with che. Thats why i don't admire him as much as most people here, he seems alot like a saint..in my opinion its hard to see him as a human being. it seems there are no faults with him.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Fidel said in his speech after Che's death that if Che had one flaw, it was his extreme agressiveness in battle. He seemed very cold-hearted towards traitors, or anyone who stood against the revolution. Not that it is a bad thing, but some people look at it as cruel and unneccecary. Of the execution lostsoul spoke of, Che wrote in his diarie: "The situation was uncomfertable for the people and for [Eutimio] so I ended the problem by giving him a shot with a .32 [-caliber] pistol in the right side of the brain, with the exit orifice in the right temporal [lobe]. He gasped a little while and was dead..." A rather chilling and technicle explanation. Oh, I know this doesn't really relate to his actions during the revolution, but according to John Lee Anderson biography, Che was somewhat of a skirt chaser in his youth...but with a face like that, how could he not be? :P

i don't know how many people he had killed but i know that he stung his horse with a knife when he was fed up. he had an asthmatic-afjajd ( i don't know the word.. it's if you have asthma and...).. that wasn't very good because he loved that horse..

when he was fighting in cuba, he got a pet dog. che was very close with the dog, but the gurillia's always had to be quite, and the dog would always bark. So i read, that che took a rope and killed it. but i think, after he won in cuba he named something famous after that dog.

they say after he killed the dog he was pretty sad.

i'm not trying to point him out like a heartless person...just trying to show that he would do anything for the revolution. that could be seen as his flaw. I don't think there was anything he would not do for the sake of revolution.
