The United States Federal Government now requires that ISPs record your data for one year to allow for investigators to check your Internet usage without needing to acquire your computer.
So the Government now is requiring ISPs to record terabytes and terabytes of "...customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses..." The implication of this being that you are trusting your ISP to actively secure oodles and oodles of data from any disgruntled employee or hacker.
So I'm going to rent a VPN from Russia (The Russian government always refuses data extradition) and use Tor now.
