Since 18% of the population supports the TEA Party[1 (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/15/us/politics/15poll.html?adxnnl=1&ref=general&src=me&adxnnlx=1311743504-wlBZwmUELKD/wWtZ/ZhIZA)] does that mean we should expect to live under a fascistic dictatorship in the near future?

I think we ought to combat cynicism better. A lot of us, at least in the first world, still hold reactionary ideas about human nature. Some of us believe humans are necessarily beasts - even though it is really imperialism that has turned us into that.

The point still remains that this is not what we have to be.

Indeed. Scarcity is what drove warfare in hunter-gatherer societies. Today warfare is driven by the profit motive in most major cases. At this point we are post-scarcity to a large extent so future warfare, post-revolution, would be primarily ideological I believe.
We won't have any success until the general public recognize that we are the only ones really fighting for the well being of all. We are the only ones that can deliver real improvements for the working class. We are the only ones that really will deliver.

If your source is the book I think, the data is cherry picked and three of the peoples studied are Yanomamo tribes, none are actually hunter gatherers (the other big source is Papua, where most of the peoples actually organize in chiefdoms and are settled agriculturalists), and the Yanomamo are in a very dysfunctional situation with very high tensions, probably since the fall of amazonian civilization due to the introduction of Malaria.

Ummmm, I think he was talking about the pre-civilization hunter-gatherer societies, which btw had real warfare going on. Prior to the development of agricultural living there was much competition and since then there has been consonant competition between various groups of humans.

warfare was endemic in many gatherer-hunter socieitiesWhat does that have to do with human nature other than a drive for survival in harsh conditions?
There is plenty of evidence of people living peacefully together within tribal bands even if there was competition and some warfare between different groups. Many early accounts of Americans by Europeans emphasized how peaceful and open some bands were.

Didn't the native Americans (or at least some of them) practice agriculture, therefore they weren't strictly hunter-gatherers? Didn't some of them have metalworking as well?

Scarcity.
which is not the same thing as 'imperialism'

i was responding to the claim that 'imperialism' has turned us into beasts by pointing out that humans were killing, raping and maiming each other for thousands of years before anything close to imperialism existed. hell read the old testament, babies being dashed against the rocks and shit in ancient genocides.
humans can be beasts and we can be many other things besides.

yes hence 'many' not 'all'
