There is still an element of hypocrisy here though. While we understand that bourgeois elections don't actually constitute popular control, I think its just more ridiculous that they are discriminating against the poor and minorities because of a fear that they might be too progressive. It is the pinnacle of arrogance for the ruling class.

Not much of a surprise. Wisconsinites made the mistake of voting in very reactionary state legislators and a reactionary extremist governor. So now you get union busting and this sort of thing.

The worst part is they can deny the bank statement (often a person's only "proof of residency") on the basis of not enough activity - in other words a subjective way to deny the poor the right to vote.

Interesting fact, you can get a free ID here in Wisconsin if the one you have is expired as of earlier this month. I got a new ID recently but for me it was due to a court order for name change.

Also slightly off topic:
There has been what appears to be an increase in cops taking IDs from homeless people or perceived homeless people in downtown Milwaukee and refusing to give them back.
