Anyone who says Anti-Zionism is Anti-Semitism is probably trolling.

No not really. You cannot deny that there is plain and simple "anti-semitism" that conveniently dresses itself up as "anti-zionism".

Here's a reasonably balanced article from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs that discusses whether anti-zionism and anti-semitism are equivalent and how they converge/diverge.

Yes, but saying anti-zionism is anti-semitism is like saying all people here on revleft are anti-semites...

Zionism is baseless genocidal nationalism. I'm against it.

In other news they're trying to make anti-zionism illegal in my country, Canada.

Anti-semitism is a loose grouping of attitudes and opinions pertaining to the character of Jews as an ethinc group. It can translate into anti-zionism, but not without difficulty since, in my opinion, an anti-semite in Europe or Northern America will mos likely harbour negative attitudes towards ethnic groups in conflict with the Israeli state (or in other words, I think there's a good chance that anti-semites will also be islamophobes).

Anti-zionism is a political conviction, and not a prejudiced attitude towards a whole group of people. In my opinion, every single revolutionary leftist should hold the conviction of anti-zionism since the ideology and practice of Israeli militarism, expansionism and a kind of racial appartheid is reactionary to the bone and even worse.

http://www.jcpa.org/phas/phas-wistrich-f04.htmTrue but there are also anti-war positions which are racist and adopted by neo-nazis... like "don't send white people to die for Iraqis". In my experience, there are far more claims of anti-zionism being anti-semetic than real examples of anti-semitism I have seen in any movements. It has happened on occasion and they antisemites are usually pretty easy to spot from their signs and they have always either been shouted-down or removed by other Palestinian solidarity activists. This is also California where there are a lot more Jewish people visibly involved in the Palestinian solidarity movements than maybe in other places and so people in the movement are pretty clear on the difference between Pro-Palestinian and Anti-Semetic.

I think the only problem on the broad left is some people fall into the "Zionist Lobby" argument which is also used by real anti-Semites. I think it's the wrong thing to talk about in regards to the US and politically it's just wrong - the argument is as if US politicians don't support Israel for the US's own imperialist interests. It's a reformist (i.e. stop the pro-Israel lobby money and then the US policies will suddenly change) at best and anti-Semitic at worst. It's also just anti-historical because I'm pretty sure that the major lobbying came after the political support by the US in the 1960s.
