So this could go in music or chit chat or whatever feel free to move it if you want. I put it here kind of inspired by The Man's thread and because there's always going to be members going through break ups and I thought maybe we could give a brief recollection of our worst break ups to show that the horrible feelings of despair will pass and that life goes on.

This is my ultimate break up song.
I spent about three days crying to this during my worst break up. I'd been in a relationship with a woman 8 years my senior for about 9 months when I was 19. She cheated on me with my best friend and another co-worker. Shit was rough, thought the world was going to end, now I look back and laugh not just at the situation but at myself.
Things will get better!
But what is your ultimate break up song?
Mine would be this:

Ignore the sucky ending clip, please.

This got me through some rough times with my ex. To this day though, it reminds me of her and makes me sad...oh fucking well.

Love this song! It's kind of sad, but beautiful. Another beautiful Rammstein song is -

Song doesn't nearly affect me now, but years ago over a break-over I could never bare, this was my jam. This version of the song is better, but I dislike the voicemail intro... Oh well, it's still good. Shit gets real around 2:10

i wish you could see yourself standing there now.
I tried to understand you, but I can't
so tall so proud so bold.
So whats another day to spend away from her and die a little more inside?
it's just another night to lie awake and wonder...
i've written a thousand pages in her name and i just want to know, does she ever regret? does she miss our love?
do you recognize those footprints in the sand? they have always been your own
my soul has shattered and fallen to the floor. i still remember your face and how beautiful you were to me. when we were beautiful, together. looking back it was so beautiful. it could have been so beautiful. i remember.
its beautiful.
THIS TOOK ME SO LONG TO DO, TO SEPARATE THE LYRICS CORRESPONDING TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND HAVE THE COLORS MATCH FOR THEM. APPRECIATE IT

I don't really have any break up songs, weirdly. I was just trying to think. I have music that reminds me of getting together with certain people though.

I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
Because at the time, all I was thinking of was the things we had talked about doing (promises) and I stopped being concerned with politics or political activism.

Classic how-could-you-leave-me song.
And just a whole buttload of Elliot Smith, particularly:

The first link works, and you don't have to download it, since the site looks kinda seedy. There's a play link that loads a flash player. It's the original album version. One of my favs too;)
EDIT:
ANd here's one on Youtube. Not the original, but I'm pretty sure it's Bob Dylan. Alright, am I getting too OCD here.

Because I'm a weird guy/rev. leftist I listened to a lot of depressing/poorly sung Billy Bragg songs when my boyfriend of five years broke up with me.

The closest I ever came to breaking up (long term relationship going through an "it's complicated" patch; I am an emotional noob :blushing:), I just listened to lots of sludge. Nothing in particular stood out, but Eyehategod's Confederacy of Ruined Lives spent a lot of time playing, so:

My worst break up was when I was 16...listened to New Found Glory's self-titled album on loop for weeks on end whilst skating. :o
Also in terms of sad bastard music, this song is amazing imo in spite of a few sexist comments...

I haven't even looked at the contents of this thread and I can already say that I don't like it. My situation is very complicated right now and I'm not about to go listening to a bunch of songs that make me feel shitty....oh wait, i already do that :crying:
inception's time is my favorite atm. It doesn't necessarily make me sad it just makes me emotional, especially when I think about my girl.

I really feel this song during breakups, though I like listening to it otherwise. It really gets, for me at least, at the phase of wonder what I could have done differently to prevent this from happening. It also reminds me of my first breakup, so I guess I listened to this song a lot then: nomNwSWIhlw
"Why do I love when I still feel pain?
When does it end, when is my work done?
Why do I fight, and why do I feel
that I'm carrying a sword through a battlefield?"
This is kind of in the hate-the-world phase of a breakup, or during the mildly manic "well fuck her I don't need her anyway" type of phase (or maybe I just wanted to post this): VierrUZDKek
