I need a new computer. The one I have right now is a piece of shit from 2002.
Am I a dick if I buy a new one (not extremely fancy) and call myself an Anarchist?

Is this seriously in learning?
Asking your peers what you are 'morally' allowed and not allowed is far less anarchist than buying things you want.

No socialist movement, including anarchism, is about restricting the consumption of goods by workers, especially of inexpensive and pretty standard consumer electronics.
Get a new computer.

Well, I still have stuff to learn about anarchy and being an anarchist, and I wanna be able to call myself one without looking like a jackass.

Then act 'normal'. You don't need to be a vegan, be off the grid or some other hip shit to be an anarchist. It's not a lifestyle.

Make sense of course.
Is another problem how long we can consume and feed capitalist more we consume more capitalist powerful, if we stop consuming and only purchasing basic needs I wonder how business would react, would they put guns on us on workers?.

Well of course I would not like to say person don't get computer and I don't like to see people miserable.
Consumerism it makes us all mad we do shopping too much who can afford or pay by credit cards and after have to struggle to pay back. My thoughts what could can happening in future if we stop consuming.
Economic systems cannot be challenged or destroyed by consumer choices. Therefore, complaining about "consumerism" is nothing but empty posturing that obscures the real issue.
Of course you can get a new computer. The only difference between getting a new computer in capitalism and in communism is that in one, you have to sell your labour power first.

The short and bitter of it is yes. I am not speaking as an Anarchist, but this applies to everyone who would call themselves a revolutionary leftist. In fact essentially all non essential spending is unacceptable for us to do. Those funds could be spent on revolutionary ends or saved until such revolutionary ends become obvious enough to then use them upon.
However as a revolutionary I must say I believe a basic computer and internet connection are valuable to any revolutionary as a part of their revolutionary efforts, so long as they are using it as such. This means cheap hardware and free software as much as possible. Consider fixing up your old computer if it still runs at all, and doing diagnostics to fix it if it doesn't. Reformat and reinstall clean, add another meg of memory whatever it needs that can be done cheaper than buying a new box.
In the end we will all fall into our liberalisms again and again, so we must realize we are in error, try to correct that behavior, and move on. Here we will also undoubtedly fail, the life of a revolutionary is full of sorrow. It isn't all riots, guns, and red(/black) flags.

They could also be spent on weed. Consider that.

A computer is essential for modern communications.
Get one that you really like because you'll be spending a lot of time on it at RevLeft!
If it'll make you feel any better, don't buy one from a Big Box store.
Maybe get one from a small-time computer store if you want a PC or from the Apple Store if you want an Apple.

lol, there's always one...
Workers shouldn't have miserable lives with no luxuries while they're waiting for a revolution that might not even come in their lifetime. People have to have fun and enjoy what pleasures they can get, otherwise they aren't really living. You sound like some kind of religious monk, only your religion is communism.

Not if you add more to the cause of anarchy with that computer, than what you added to the cause of capitalism by buying it.
Net gain, baby!

Blah blah blah. What good is communism if we're all poor? I suppose you're also a DPRK cheerleader?

This might not be the cost saving measure it seems to be. I'm no computer expert, and I get confused at all the different types of RAM (DDR or whatever) but I've been told old RAM is actually more expensive than newer RAM. The reasoning being that older types of RAM are not produced as much or even at all whereas there is plenty of the newer stuff since it is being mass produced. It's simple economics, as there are a lot of people trying to upgrade old technology, particularly in a bad economy, more than there is actual amounts of certain types of old technology like RAM. The result is that the price of the older RAM goes up since the demand outweighs the supply. I don't know if it's true or not, it's just what I've been told.

Workers also aren't all revolutionaries. I'm sorry if I take revolution very seriously, but that is what it is.

I wasn't trying to be prescriptive, I was simply saying that whatever problem is making his old computer unusable, or too frustrating to properly use, should be diagnosed and a more targeted approach be taken. It could easily be that the whole thing is too outdated to run efficiently with a modern operating system at which point a cost efficient computer should be found that meets the users needs and has some longevity. I was trying to discourage the act of purchasing an extravagant super gaming computer the likes of which I used to struggle over.

What good is this, you strike at me because your opinion is in an overwhelming majority. You provide no real criticism, this should not have been addressed to me but to your audience. I'm sure it found its addressee anyhow.
I do support the right of the DPRK to self-determination if that's what you mean, I also don't understand how being a cheerleader is a bad thing, yes I do cheer on the working class while I try to build the revolution.
You assume too much.
