View Full Version : Anyone in New Orleans?

I am getting back to my leftist roots, and was wondering if anyone is in New Orleans, where I currently find myself exiled. I should say that I am an ex-Trotskyist (BAMN / RWL) with a long hiatus into lots of other things. I was originally active in the Bay Area, and got my degree from Berkeley. I am wondering what the left / radical politics scene is like in New Orleans, if it exists at all. Thank you.

I'm not in New Orleans (never even been there, actually), but I'm going to pop into this thread and welcome you anyway. :D

I'm from Mississippi (in NYC now). I haven't been able to look into New Orleans stuff recently, but here's some stuff I found in the last couple of years:
New Orleans Workers Center for Racial Justice
http://nolaps.blogspot.com/ NO Palestine Solidarity
http://www.nowcrj.org/ NO workers' center for racial justice
http://2-cent.com Black youth media collective
http://www.leftturn.org/?q=node/1298

There's a sizeable Palestinian community there and have been some solidarity demos.
The ISO I think has a branch email on their website--contacting them just to ask about demos and stuff could be useful. Do a facebook search (you can make a pseudonymous account) for stuff there--there's probably a couple of study groups, etc.

I'd be interested to hear about what's going on down there once you get involved.
