Y'know, I've been wanting to hit Portland for some time now to take a tour of the various and sundry brewpubs I've heard that place has... But given it's reput on this site I'm not so sure now.

Maybe if I were making an argument this would be true.

People go to Portland so they can talk about how they've been to Portland. Nobody really likes living there.

Strangely enough no one knows what happened to the original inhabitants of Portland. They were supplanted by the tribe of posuers sometime in 1991 AD, but if we shift through the top soil past the sophie B. hawkins cds you can find the vestiges of a lost Portland.

I like Portland...
Okay that might only be because I live in a shit little town just outside of it and it is a utopia compared to where I live.

It wasn't really directed at you, just a funny internet meme thing.

What gets me is that it seems like almost all these photos are taken around the same intersection in Portland. The mind boggles at what the others are like!

I hate white people who come to Portland and complain about how white Portland is. You're just making it worse, go the fuck back to where you came from.

Portland is a place with an odd juxtaposition of very unstable homeless people on the cleanest streets you'll ever see.

Our streets aren't really that clean, in my experience. We do have a lot of crazies out and about, because people who really live here tend towards the "live and let live" side of the spectrum, but if they weren't here, they'd be somewhere else, so ultimately their conditions are a testament to the failure of social democracy in general. /rant

I guess I've only ever really hung out in the downtown area and I found it to be very clean and pretty, at least compared to the other metropolitan places I've been.

It's like an episode of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. You might think you're at a different intersection, but really the Universe directs every and all traffic there is towards one single focal point, which is that one intersection.

I would describe most people from the Midwest who live in Portland as tourists. South-side Chicagoans get a pass on this one.

Most black people I know have referred to it as "Lake No-Negro" at one point or another.

What is this about Portland? Why is it worth so much discussion? I would read about it on Wikipedia, but I can't be bothered.
