I want to start making moonshine at home, I've been searching the net for info, but I want some personal input from revolutionaries with experience.

Do any of you know how to build a good Still? Temperature advice? etc...

-Recommended temperature for mash is around 180 Fahrenheit (82 Celsius). Alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature than water.

-Use copper pipes to filter sulphur compounds, these will give a bad taste to the booze.

-For every 20L of mash, throw away the first 100-200 ml of spirit you collect. This ensures the removal of any hazardous chemicals.

A vodka still? sounds like a crazy idea and i like it. Did you plan on using potatoes or grain?

Either, it will have similar results. Vodka is basically ethanol and water, with a few impurities, but that's it, it's just diluted alcohol.

Probably potatoes coz there's loads in Portugal.

Or corn meal from the shop...

Also be careful with the alcohol. Lot's of cheap alcohol sounds awesome (I assume it's cheap because it's homemade), but alcoholism is not a pretty defining characteristic.

My friend tried making his own alcohol. He started puking up blood in excess amounts. Yeah he's pretty stupid.

Sounds like my kind of friend. My best friend takes pills he finds on the ground. No lie, we've been walking and I've seen him pick up a random pill not knowing what the fuck it is and just taking it. He's fucking brilliant.

Electric stills are very expensive (I'm poor). You can build your own, in the 19th century most people didn't have electric stills and simply used fire to heat the mash. It's not dangerous as long as you use copper pipes!

The copper removes the sulphur from the vapour.

Did he follow the two imperative safety rules?

1) Use copper pipes to transport alcoholic vapour.
2) Never drink the first shot, it's highly toxic and contains optic nerve poison (hence why inexperienced moon-shiners went blind). The rest is perfectly safe.

A total of 88 litres of potential illegal alcohol was seized.

I ain't makin' no factory homie. It's for myself and friends during parties. The quantity I'll make is far from dangerous.

Plus, I own the means of production

I don't know a lot about stills, but I came across this design recently. It looks fairly easy to set up and the creator says it's capable of producing Ethyl:

Making alcohol like this would taste awful. You need copper tubes to remove sulphur-compounds, otherwise the booze will taste really bad.

Hey I found a really good site:

Why don't you just make homemade mead or wine? All the alcohol without the need for distillation.

Wine is dirt-cheap here in Portugal.

Fuck making vodka, If I was going to make a home-made alcohol I would make a vat of good old irish Poitín.

Stronger than moonshine and absinth, one glass and your obliterated. :D

Is there any amount of blood you can puke up that isn't excess?

I've seen how alcoholic cider is made and it's rather straightforward (without the need to distill!).

Crush apples, pour apple juice, yeast, ferment, drink, fuck rainbows.

You need to get proper cider apples if you're going to do it properly, though, and ideally you blend a few varieties, so you'd want to do some research in that direction. If you just use regular apples from a supermarket or whatever it will taste shitty. (Although given that Strongbow is one of the biggest-selling brands over here, that doesn't appear to bother some people in the slightest... :glare:)
