should the idea that certain state powers have complete and unchallengable juridiction in one particular peice of territory?

im not saying should we support the iraq war or whatever, as even if saddam was bad, bombing the shit out of iraq and igniting civil war obviously bad. but the left opposed that war because we didnt think it was right to blow up a bunch of people and send people to die for the interests of the state/capital or whatever. but leftists didnt oppose it simply because it would violate the sovreignty of iraq and saddam/baathists should have unchallenged control over the peice of land called iraq

Ideally, no. Self-determination for people of a certain national identity is always more progressive than the alternatives, but the idea of sovereignty can easily justify the racism and oppression that exists within countries, particularly the West, who use the nation-state to the ruling classes' advantage. The loss of sovereignty for a colonized or oppressed population is a feature of capitalism, but not an illness in itself. We oppose capitalism, and should not champion sovereignty but definitely criticize its abuses by the elite.
