Someone just told me "Our society rewards those who do less" (Meaning I'm guessing welfare )
Is that even worth responding too? Anyone have a devastating rebuttal. I'm a little unable to come up with something REALLY good.

The person is right. Capitalist society rewards those who do less; the boss.

I mentioned that. I bet they probably won't get it. But it's out there.

It's true, but not for the reasons they think. To them, it's a bash on welfare and those lazy poor folk who don't wanna work. Ironically, though, it's truth lies in those who they uphold as the pillars of soceity, the rich and sucessful. Honestly now, if they have all that money they musta worked long and hard to get it therefore when they do nothing it's okay and to be encouraged. In our soceity, if your a millionaire it doesn't matter how you get your money as long as you did it legally, your automatically considered the best of society. Hell, look at shows like TMZ they glorify people who did little to nothing to better society and yet have millions of dollars and have millions of stupid kids looking up to them as role models. Then there's shows like 'celebrity rehab' and 'jersey shore'. Drug addicted idiots getting richly rewarded for being fuckups.
In short, your friend is correct, but not for the reasons he thinks he is(or she is etc. etc.)

I agree with you, except for this piece, as the millionaires and above didn't acquire their wealth legally, they cheated and stole it from the working class.
o well this is ok I guess

Legal by bourgeoisie standards. Not right, but 'legal'.

Our society rewards those who do less: just look at George W. Bush. He dodged the draft, ran a bunch of businesses into the ground, and then he did the same thing to America.

Put simply, our society rewards power. If I have a deed in my pocket saying I own such and such factory then it doesn't matter if I don't get out of bed today, I still get paid. If you work in my factory then you must get out of bed and work for a fraction of what I receive. The large banking companies that were going bust were handed public cash because they were big and powerful and thus were their bosses. Clearly we live in a society where contribution and sacrafice is not considered when we come to distribute wealth. If we did, coal miners and deep sea fishermen would be among the best rewarded jobs and the ceo of goldman sachs would have to beg on the streets for bailout cash.

I wish I could do that.

Very few people in capitalist society get rich through their work. The richest people got rich through investing, inheritance and plain old speculation. And of course exploiting cheap labour. I thought this was common knowledge.
