As for 'categorizing' myself I guess I am a pragmatic individual stuck in what I refer to as 'Roasting Red Point,' Texas the Republican hell hole.

My late grandfather on my mother's side was an activist minister in Washington, DC who wrote 'The only true measure of a great nation is not how well we take care of the well off but how we help everyone to become better off.' He was accused of being a Communist by Joseph McCarthy and fought at the end of his life swearing he wasn't a Communist; but a true blue American humanitarian. He died in 1954 having lost his career, his health, and his hope that America would ever be a better nation with McCarthyism running rampant.

For myself I started as a non-political type of student while attending uni at American University in Washington, DC. I went into computers (errr computer went into me) and I ended up in major cities working on the 'world changing' machines in Washington, DC, Boston, Toronto, Fairfax, Va., and I was assigned down here in the Dallas area for the last 20 years.

I sold my business in 2001 and worked as a low paid teacher for special needs students finally retiring in 2008 due to health issues. My health issues were the reason I fell out with any of the major parties here in Texas. I was found to have renal cell cancer in 2003 and by 2004 my Blue/Cross Blue/Shield health insurer recissioned me and my family. I then had to apply to the Texas Health Risk Pool run by Blue/Cross Blue/Shield and pay 400 percent above the going rate; along with not having my cancer tests and follow-ups paid for for two years and my entire family uninsured. It proved to me that HEALTH INSURANCE IN TEXAS SUCKS WORSE THAN GEORGE W. BUSH and Texas wants to have the most uninsured because it protects health insurers profits and makes the government pay for coverage! I departed ways with the Republican party and have issues with the Democrats too...But if I had to choose I would take a Democrat over a Republican any day.

I am not what I would call a Communist, Marxist, Anarchist, or Radical Radical; but I am sure not what I look like one of the Tea (brain) Party members that don't question their leadership. I am a Christian, although most the people around me wonder if I have any faith at all for what I believe.

I believe in a woman's reproductive right because all I do is 'cum' and go they are the ones with the follow through.

I believe NO ONE has the right to tell what an adult person should do with their privates. If they love another of their own sex then there should be NO LAW against that.

I believe the wealthy amongst us have a duty to help lift people out of poverty to their level of personal prosperity and one's health should be a right; not a profit center.

Finally I believe that Christ was a radical of His time and faced the same type of questioning I face each and every day concerning what I believe. I follow what 1-Timothy 6:17-21 and John 13:34-35.

This is who and what I am if I do not fit here let me know.

Welcome.

Sorry to hear about all your healthcare trials and troubles. It's not the same, but my healthcare story is that I had a Kaiser plan and was diagnosed (at a Kaiser hospital) with a degenerating eye-condition and told I would probably loose sight by 40, then dropped because of that now, "pre-existing" ailment. I then went to the eye center at UC Berkeley, they found out I wasn't a student but they didn't charge me extra for the tests and they told me that I had been mis-diagnosed and that the eye problem was normal for someone in their 30s and would go away on its own!

Anyway I think if you're interested in discussing and debating then this is the right place for you. However, since it is a Revolutionary (not meaning run to the hills with a gun, although I guess some people do see it that way) Leftist forum you'll probably be restricted, but don't take it personally*. The only position you stated in your introduction that is "restriction-worthy" is supporting the Democrats but the rest sounds right-on to me.

*It's mostly so us radical radicals can argue over small inter-left disagreements

Have you ever tried reading any of Marx's work? Start off with the Manifesto (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/index.htm)and then use this site (http://www.marxists.org/) to find more works.

There's a no preaching policy on the site which will get you restricted if it's broken. But even though I'm not a theist I do think that the Bible was written as a book for the oppressed, much of it's content is there to give hope to the downtrodden and enslaved.

Anyways welcome and I hope you find your time here worthwhile, any questions feel free to ask and make good use of the learning section.

@Jimmy I think he said that he would take a Democrat over a Republican but that they are both useless. Nothing reactionary about that.

Hi,

Welcome.

You can find a lot of interesting and above all free literature here: www.marxists.org.

But seeing as you are a Christian,...you might also be interested in reading something about Christian Anarchism. Here is a quick overview of what that is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_anarchism. It basically combines christianity and socialism. Tolstoi was one of the main protagonists of that specific ideology...so you might want to search online for some further reading.
