Just caught mention of this site while browsing at Democratic Underground.
Was a member almost from the beginning around 2001 (I'm using the same ID). Not allowed to post there anymore - they won't tell me why - too bad for them. I will not put up with personality cults, which that site has turned into. All the good people seemed to have left or kicked out - except for a few.
Seem to have outgrown the traditional Democratic Party thing - I'm more of a Socialist I think - actually I think I've always been the same - but that site and the Dem Party as passed me by - moved WAY to the right IMO.
I'm looking to join a local Socialist organizations/meetups in the Las Vegas area - anyone have any ideas?
I will NOT compromise my beliefs - no matter WHO is "in office". If it was wrong for a repuke to do it - it's doubly wrong for a "Democrat" to even THINK of it! I wanted another FDR and all we got is another Hoover or worse instead...

Hello. Glad you've moved further to the left from Democrats. That's how I got into revolutionary leftism as well.

Thanks.
Wish us on the left had viable organization to challenge the status quo parties.
I am NOT voting for Barack Hoover Obama this time around, that's for sure
It goes without saying that I would NEVER vote for a repuke! - our repukes here are all "Sharon Angle" teabaggers, don't forget! Can you believe she's gonna run again?!

Welcome. Having lived in Southern California for a while (including when I turned 21) I've naturally gone to visit the strip a few times. I went back last year to help out with this trade show and we were staying far away from the strip and I realized that Vegas is really like a giant old-school company town where tons of people have some connection to the casinos and hospitality (I work in a non-union hotel by the way so that's why I was thinking about all this). Also when you go to the casinos, everyone of the maids and front desk people and so on have union pins on their uniforms. Anyway, I had never thought of Vegas like and and so I'd imagine in some ways radicals could have a good impact with workers in that city, though I have never met any radicals from there.
Maybe the kind of myth of easy money along with a need for labor by the ever-expanding casinos is kind of a damper on class-consciousness, but still there are tons of construction workers feeling the pinch with a downturn in suburb and casino development as well as many people who moved out there for cheap housing that are probably under-water. So anyway, I think you could be in a really interesting place as far as potential fight-back from workers.

Apparently Vegas is the suicide capital of the US.... I have visited before and it didn't really appeal to me, except for the shooting ranges, even if they are expensive and touristy. Don't know any groups out there...
Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the reply.
Kinda explains why I don't see anything no matter how/where I search on the internet.
If there are any other Vegans out there, how 'bout we meet up and START SOMETHING?!
I see just from this intros thread that there is at least one other in this zoo...

There are probably lots fewer if any construction industry workers still left here - more that over a couple hundred thousand people have already left from what I've seen/read/heard - maybe even a FEW hundred thousand. There are absolutely NO construction jobs available listed, let alone in the Architecture arena I used to run in...
An interesting note: Almost ALL want ads are just "feeling out" people - and have absolutely no intention of imimediate employment - they just want to see who's out there and (hopefully for the rat bastard blood suicking employers) find out who in their organization is looking for work so they can fire them and get new ones - and those few I know who are still working are being offered their exisitng jobs or new jobs at less than HALF their former rates and almost DOUBLE the time worked (it was normal for a minimum of 50 hours/week in the "good" times) - all at the same time these same bosses buy new Vipers and Bentleys (literally!) in the their parking spaces!
"Shared Sacrifice" my ass you fucker OBAMA!!!
